Canadian City Councillor Fined $1000 for Saying Homosexuality “not Normal or Natural”
Life Site ^

KAMLOOPS, BC, January 18, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A Catholic city councillor in Kamloops, British Columbia, who was himself the victim of the crime of vandalism due to his faith, has been forced to apologize and pay a homosexual activist couple $1000. The couple filed a complaint with the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal which was accepted and was to go to the hearing stage.

Strangely, it was councillor who was shown true discrimination worthy of a human rights complaint. In June, the councillor opposed a homosexual pride proclamation, after which his barber shop was vandalized with "Homophobia Die" scrawled on the door of his business.

At the time LifeSiteNews.com interviewed John DeCicco, an active Catholic and member of the Knights of Columbus. DeCicco, an Italian immigrant who came to Canada at the young age of 15 and is fiercely proud of the country he now calls home, told LifeSiteNews.com at the time, "In this great nation of ours we can express our opinions and when you can't there's something wrong."

DeCicco has said the settlement will not changes his opposition to gay pride week. "I'm not going to change my view of my stand," he said. "My public comments have to be a little more refined."

This kind of Canadian crazy thing makes California look conservative. What ever happened to the freedom of speech? I honestly can't imagine how any conservative could want to live in Canada anymore.

However, there is one positive thing out of all this and that's the fact that Americans get to see what happens when a nation or province marches this far down the road of social liberalism, political-correctness and 'tolerance'. It does full circle and you end up with conservatives being discriminated against.

I love Canada, they always show us the crap that we are headed for 10 years down the road. Oh well, we are probably too dumb to see the slipperly slope.

There is NO freedom of speech if you say something about a Homo or a Muslim, one only has freedom of speech if you criticize a Jew or Christan.

Canada never has had FREEDOM OF SPEECH. Its own constitution FORBIDS it.

This will be The Bible someday, at least in its current form. It will deemed "hate" material in Canada within 5 years. You wait. What did T.S. say, something about a whimper? Just like this issue today. What will it take before people who value freedom finally rise up against these tyrants??

Don't these secular people believe in evolution? In evolutionary terms, homosexuality is not normal because it cannot lead to reproduction of the species.

If the government orders him to pay, he should pay, because the image of Caesar is on the coin. But he should not apologize, instead he should openly proclaim the truth that homosexuality is both abnormal and sinful.

As it is written: "Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's."

This is the proper version of Separation of Church and State.

We have to be a lot smarter in how we express things. The left has used language to their advantage by parsing the phrases very carefully.

"My spririt does not accept homosexuality as natural," or phrases of this nature put the accuser on the spot. The law cannot judge another's spirit.

The Candian liberals have made a huge mistake. Sodomy is not admired by Canadians, and Canadians are in the process of taking their government and country back. When people are fined for exercisiong freedom of speech, it signals others to keep doing the same.

Graffitti will start to appear that says: "Homosexuality is not normal or natural." You will see it written all over the place, and most prominantly , in government office bathrooms.

Arise Canadians, and throw off your liberal chains!!!!

Folks, hate-crime loving Democrats control Congress now. We may see a version of this Euro-Canuck insanity implemented here as early as 2009 if a social liberal--Democrat or Republican--is elected president.

Get ready for a wild ride.

"Folks, hate-crime loving Democrats control Congress now. We may see a version of this Euro-Canuck insanity implemented here as early as 2009 if a social liberal--Democrat or Republican--is elected president."

You need to understand, though, that Canadian liberalism is far deeper and more pernicious than American liberalism. Even Harry Reid saluted the execution of Saddam Hussein as 'just', while the rest of the liberal world expressed concern at his 'violation of human rights'. The point I'm making is that what passes as 'centrism' (which I'm no fan of) in the US is often regarded as radical right-wing ideology in Canada. For instance, one clever pundit suggested that Arnold Schwarzenegger, whom many American conservatives regard as too liberal, would be denounced as a right-winger in Canada for some of the simply sensible things he's done as governor of California.

Don't get me wrong - if Dems get in power at the highest level over (i.e., the presidency), things will go downhill big time. I'm just saying that the Canadian liberals are even crazier than their American counterparts.

One last point! Sorry.

Another huge reason why Canada is in a liberal morass is their crazy judiciary - particularly their supreme court which does and approves things that would give even the 9th Circuit pause. The rightward shift of the US Supreme Court (and the federal judciary, in general) in the past couple years will be a huge help in keeping our country from going the way of Canada. As it now stands, for instance, it appears that we have rejuvenated and reinforced the conservative wing of SCOTUS and now have 4 solid conservatives on the 9 member court, compared to just 3 a couple years ago. We need to keep this up.

Just a thought.

Good points.

I'm not nearly as optimistic. I think the Dems successfully stalled the conservative shift on the Supreme Court (and federal circuit courts) to leave judicial activism well in control.

We have hate-crime loving Republicans who are anxious to stifle free speech on the gay rights agenda. I have a senator from my own extremely conservative state who signed on as a sponsor to the last federal hate-crimes initiative that could have given the radical gay rights agenda crew a stranglehold on the necks of social conservatives.
