Bush to talk to border agents' families
Daily Bulletin ^ | Sara Carter

President Bush is expected to reach out to the families of two Texas Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a Mexican drug smuggler.

White House staff contacted former agent Ignacio Ramos' family early Friday, assuring them the president would call them soon, said Monica Ramos, the agent's wife.

You don't think that some of these Border Agents are taking bribes?

There are strong indications that this was a 'deal' that went bad. Why else would these agents try to cover up the incident. If they were above board, they would have reported it the moment it happened.

I won't deny that happens .. it occurs in many different area of the work force

But that is also a pretty heavy charge

I'll admit I haven't followed this case ..

Mainly because I'm sick of being called an OBL troll so I avoid this topic whenever possible

Was there any evidence to back up that charge?

Reality: Congress determined the penalties imposed on Compean and Ramos by setting the punishment for discharging a firearm during a crime of violence at a mandatory minimum of ten years (on top of any other sentence imposed). Congress did not make an exception for law enforcement officers.

More unbelievable stuff. Your Congress at work, huh? Thorough as usual.

You're siding with a known drug smuggling illegal alien over border agents sworn to protect our country against such riff-raff. And if you see nothing wrong with that then you must be an FROBL.

You don't see that Ramos and Campeon were up against a stacked deck and had no chance for a fair trial?

There is no evidence that they did any such thing...All they had to do was make a verbal report of the shooting.....Supervisors were there at the time and well aware of the shooting...They never even thought that they had hit him...He got into a van on the other side of the border and took off...It was a full month before he even got medical help and only then at our expense...The penalty for not making the verbal report was five days suspension....The Doc who took the bullet out testified that he was not shot in the butt but in a crouched position....Much like what the agents reported...They have stated that it looked like he had a gun in hand and that is the reason for the shooting in the first place...Now the drug dealer testified that he tried to give up but when the one agent reported that he got into a scuffle with him and the agent was knocked down...The DA took the drug dealers word....Not only did this drug dealer get immunity from this crime but months later he got another immunity from another incursion with drugs into this country....That fact was not allowed to be addressed to the jury..There is lots of facts out there on this case and I have posted them on other threads but do not want to just put the same ones out on each and every one....

Both parties have been completely corrupted.

That's where I've arrived at. Most of them are interested in perpetuating their own power and position. I'm getting sick of the posturing in the name of "serving the people". It's insulting.

I'm hopeful that the trial transcripts will be released eventually but I highly doubt it will influence the opinions of those who have fallen hook, line and sinker, for the MSM spin on this case, and refuse to accept any facts about this case.

I believe that an honest debate can be had as to the punishment phase of this trial, but I completely disagree with those who think these two border agents should not have faced charges for their actions. A jury of their peers found them guilty.

I think people need to step back, calm down, and use their brains instead of their emotions. I expect childish and ignorant behaviour from Liberals, not from Conservatives.

Sutton's story doesn't add up. First he says...

Myth: THE GOVERNMENT LET A DRUG SMUGGLER GO FREE

Reality: Because the agents could not identify him, found no fingerprints, could not tie him to the van and did not apprehend him after shooting him, the case against Aldrete could not be proven.

Then he says...

Myth: THE GOVERNMENT GAVE ALDRETE BLANKET IMMUNITY FOR HIS CRIMES

Reality: Agent Compean failed to arrest Aldrete when he attempted to surrender; instead, Compean tried to hit Aldrete with the butt of his shotgun, at which time Aldrete began to run towards the border. The agents shot at him 15 times, hitting him once, knocking Aldrete to the ground.

Sutton says that the guy was close enough to try to hit him with the butt of a shotgun, yet he also says that the Agents weren't close enough to identify him to prosecute him? Something is very fishy with the prosectors story.

I recognize John and Ken: who are the rest? Is the man at left one of the two agents?

Don't confuse folks with any facts about this case. I've read enough posts on this subject to know that facts just don't matter anymore to some of our FRiends.

International business huh-hmmmm, interesting don't you think...

He took the drug dealers word that this happened...Yet they chased him from town three miles but could not tie him to the van...Saw him get out of the van but could not tie him to the van...They why did they have to give the drug dealer immunity for bringing the drugs into this country for this event...Not to mention giving him immunity on another occasion after this one....Allot of what the DA says does not make sense....The fact is the took the word of a known drug dealer over the words of two border patrol agents...Now for the rest of the story...The person who turned all this in was another agent who was a life long friend of the drug dealer....There is lots going on with this case that smells to me......

We're dissecting facts of the case, unlike yourself who swallows anything, hook, line and sinker. Care to offer any new facts instead of ad hominem attacks?

Now there's an intelligent post. sarc

Why would I blame President Bush for this situation? A Liberal would because they blame him because they blame him for everything. Blaming President Bush for this situation is like blaming the Governor of a state when two of their state patrol officers get themselves into trouble with the law.

I have been "dissecting facts" of this case ever since we first learned of it. If I had only read the misleading headlines, and sob stories, I would most likely still be believing that these two agents did nothing wrong. It's through dissecting the facts that I have come to believe that these border agents aren't the angels some are making them out to be. They chose a course of action that got them into big trouble.

But like I've said, I can understand debating whether or not the punishment fit the crime.

There are no new facts that I am aware of. It will be interesting to read the trial transcripts.

I am sticking to the facts. They THOUGHT he had a weapon. Everything after that is just filler. Bush has handed down his mandate, the borders will not be closed, illegal aliens will get SS benefits, families of illegal aliens who are hurt or die on the job will be able to collect workman's comp. It goes on and on and on with no end in sight. The invasion will not be stopped by our officials-they encourage it.
