There are plenty of versions of what actually took place when two Border Patrol agents, Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, tried to chase down a drug smuggler in El Paso.

Yep that is fact...... And that is why we have courts and trials in an effort to sort out the truth from among these varying versions....

In this case 12 citizens from the area where this took place sat in judgment, listened to the varying accounts presented from the witness stand, heard/saw the evidence introduced, listened to the cross examinations of the witnesses/evidence, judge the credibility of each, received the judge's instructions and participated in deliberations which found them guilty on 11 of the 12 counts charged.

That judical system is our process to sort out all these varying versions. Now that the first phase is completed it is now up to the Appellate process to further deem if anything was in error and thus set aside the verdict or let it stand. That's were we are at the present time.

Found this at "rightwinged.com".

As a Border Patrol agent, Ramos has been involved in the capture of nearly 100 drug smugglers and the seizure of untold thousands of pounds of narcotics. He also was nominated for Border Patrol Agent of the Year in March 2005, though the nomination was withdrawn after details of the Aldrete-Davila incident came out. Written by "Randy"

and this on "humanevents.com" by our Farah:

I am sickened by the case against the two Border Patrol agents -- Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean. On Feb. 17, Ramos, 37, an eight-year veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserve and a former nominee for Border Patrol Agent of the Year, responded to a request for backup from Compean, 28, who had seen a suspicious van near the border town of Fabens, Texas.

Searched BP site but it not very informative or well organized (imagine that). On Monday I will call a friend in the DOJ and ask for the real deal but right now I am not sure. Other than it as good as the net. Can't remember if the union rep said anything about this on FOX.

There was an article on here where some on the jury would not vote them guilty. Another juror told them the judge would not accept a hung jury. That is what made them change

And that certainly needs to be examined on appeal... Those involved need to be put under oath in the court room and describe what they were told, by whom, etc and let the facts be determined. Let the Appellate process begin and do it's work.

"I also believe that one of the agents was "Agent of the Year" in 2005. "

Well, that's what I kept hearing for weeks from conservative radio hosts on various stations. It was also posted here at FR by folks whose big issue is the border.

It's a myth. He, Ramos, was arrested twice for domestic abuse. No recognition of outstanding service has been awarded to either men by the Border Patrol.

Because this is such an emotionally charged issue, many here are not paying attention to the facts, just what feels good emotionally - the same way the far left reacts to issues important to them.

I'd heard or read nothing of the other side, the prosecution, until I heard Rich Lowry from the National Review mag. interviewed on the local conservative "Hot Talk" station. The host remarked about the travesty and miscarriage of justice concerning the two agents. Lowrie said that he heard Sutton on O'Riley and he made a very good argument to the contrary.

There is a list of myths concerning the case posted on several of these threads. It's apparent that those screaming the loudest have the least amount of facts, but are too emotionally invested to make a graceful retreat from an untenable position.

If there had been a shootout, there would be no problem, but the only shooting was done by the border agents. That and the fact they tried to hide the evidence of the shooting by policing their brass, among many other things.

The irony:

Under Clinton, we kept seeing requests for donations to HIS legal fund to pay for his 'indiscretions'.

Under Bush, we keep seeing requests for donations to fund to help those who fought in Iraq and are now in prison and those who protected our borders and are now in prison.

Something is woefully wrong with this picture!

I found the article. They said they were pressured to change their verdict.

[snip]After the trial, two jurors gave sworn statements that they had been pressured to render a guilty verdict and did not understand that a hung jury was possible.

The rest of the article.HERE

George Putnam (Newsmax.com) January 19, 2007

...snip... Three jurors say they were coerced into convicting the two agents.

Judge Cardone, the prosecution, and the jury got it wrong the first time and now it seems they have it wrong again!

This ruling by judge and jury is the most disgraceful act I have heard of in the history of our great nation. Judge Cardone and the prosecutors should be ashamed of themselves for distorting the facts in the case.

The two dedicated border patrolmen are now behind bars and the drug smuggler is free to go about his illicit traffic in drug pedaling and thumbing his nose at us all of us while justice weeps.

And yet still no response from the White House or attorney general".

Thanks...... And that certainly needs to be examined in an Appeal Court with those making the assertions under oath and subject to cross examination and perjury liablility. Hopefully the appeals will get into this detail.

There may well be legal grounds for a mistrial, redirect or some other legal remedy.

And George Putnam is who?...... What is his legal standing in this case, court room, etc. None, correct?

Let the legal process work... That is what the Appellate Courts are for, not some pundit punditificating.

You're welcome. Many on here are persecuting the border agents for doing their job. The only fault I can find with them is that their aim was not good enough.

But they didn't vote that way.... Maybe they should be examined under oath in court and given some time in the pokey if they failed to do their duty as the swore to, reckon?

Why is our President wasting time on this when we have true important issues going on. Didn't these two criminals have a trial???? I believe this is where you gather the evidence and find a verdict. Obviously they were found guilty and should do their time. This is a ridiculous waste of time.

LOL...... Well Ramos did connect with the one round he fired. Now Compean fired 14 or so rounds and hit nothing but mesquite, cacti or brush.

Did you know that Homeland Security sent two swat teams to arrest the border agents? Swat Teams. They were putting on a show if you ask me. Kinda reminds me of the Elian Gonzalez episode.

You said -- "This is unbelievable. Bush pardons 5 drug dealers over Christmas and won't pardon two Border Patrol officers who shot and wounded a drug dealer with 750 pounds of pot on him."

It is unbelievable. It goes without saying that anyone who is carrying 750 pounds of pot is a criminal to the nth degree and is certainly employed by some pretty nasty people, too -- who won't waste a *second* in wasting someone else who gets in their way.

And it also goes without saying that someone who faces big-time charges for drug actions (such as this carrier) is to be considered *armed and dangerous* -- no matter what one sees with their eyes. It's time for *open war* on these drug dealers and other illegal activities on the border of our country. Start shooting and killing people -- as being *dead* is the only "authority" that these drug people really understand...

Star Traveler
