San Francisco -- Eight men were arrested Tuesday in the 1971 killing of a San Francisco police officer that authorities say was part of a black power group's five-year effort to attack and kill law enforcement officers in San Francisco and New York.
Police said all eight are believed to be former members of the Black Liberation Army, a violent offshoot of the Black Panther Party. The Aug. 29, 1971 shooting death of Sgt. John V. Young, 51, at a San Francisco police station was one in a series of attacks by BLA members on law enforcement officials on both coasts, police said.
The attacks, carried out between 1968 and 1973, also included the bombing of a police funeral in San Francisco and the slayings of two New York City police officers, as well as three armed bank robberies, police said.
Seven of the men were charged with murder and conspiracy.
. . . The investigation of the BLA killing spree was reopened in 1999 after "advances in forensic science led to the discovery of new evidence in one of the unsolved cases," according to a news release from the San Francisco Police Department. No further details were given.

Any chance they are going to arrest Bill Ayers and his slut wife (she used sex to recruit new members to the Weathermen) Bernadine Dorn for their bombing activities with the Weathermen? The thought of them being drug out of the Ivy League schools they teach at in handcuffs is already making my day a lot better. Apparently there are still some people (on the subject of the Panthers) who think they were somehow fighting the man however, Newton's first stay in prison was for beating a 17 year old BLACK hooker to death. I recommend a book called "In the Shadow of the Panther" - it tells it the way it really was.

I think today's events must make Ayers and Dohrn VERY nervous.
Both were investigated,along with other Weathermen, for the Park Station bombing in Febuary,1970,when one SFPD officer was killed.

I have been meaning to read that book, thanks. It was Betty Van Patter's murder that made David Horowitz come to his senses and leave the lunatic fringe. I am sure Frontpage Magazine.org will be covering this story tomorrow.

These miscreants were a part of the so called Black Liberation Army. They were a group of Marxist/anarchists that formed when the Black Panthers broke up. The BLA also worked with the Weather Underground on a couple of projects which left security guards and police officers dead.
