I've been following your blog for so long I forgot where I had first found it, apparently found on FR.

This is a great bit of reporting here, you're doing true yeoman's work, hope you don't mind a few accolades from the FR peanut gallery.

I think that it's all aimed at neutralizing the Islamic issue. They want to get it out of the way early, just like Obama's mafia ties, get it out and get past it.

I don't think that Obama supporters will be very happy with Obama taking a back seat to Hillary, though. They seem to hate her all most as much as we do.

I find it funny how CNN lashed out at Insight and yet their own reporting on the story is shoddy and not factual as well.

Whatever the reality, it will eventually bubble up to the top.

What you're doing is what journalists are supposed to do -- except you're not in an office in Manahattan.

how focused is the Indonesian media on this story? Is it in the 'celebrity gossip' rags, or just in the more business/government/wonkish side of the media there?

Barack Obama was born in Hawaii...so he is a natural-born US citizen. Maybe the Indonesians considered him an Indonesian citizen by virtue of his step-father's status but that shouldn't have any bearing on his eligibility. It is interesting that the Catholic school he attended listed him as a Muslim.

It looks like Hillary has succeeded in making people aware of the Muslim angle, while getting the media to blame the right wing and Insight magazine (evidently put out by Rev. Moon's people) for spreading the story.

Looking at the school, it is easy to see how someone could confuse it with a madrassa with it's domed roof and Islamic architecture, but SD Besuki is indeed a government primary school and not a madrassa.

That being said, a government primary school in Indonesia is not quite as secular as one in the west might imagine. In fact Islam plays a very important role in Indonesian schools and a foreigner might be surprised to find out that religious classes are compulsory for all Indonesian students.

All Indonesian students are required to study religion at school and a young "Barry Soetoro" being a Muslim would have been required to study Islam daily in school. He would have been taught to read and write Arabic, to recite his prayers properly, to read and recite from the Quran and to study the laws of Islam.

Obama Barack Hussein might not have attended an Indonesian madrassa, but evidence will show later that he has not been completely forthcoming on his Muslim heritage and upbringing.

School documents listed Barry Soetoro as an Indonesian citizen born in Honolulu, Hawaii on 4 August 1961. Barry's religion was listed as Islam.

Classmate Rony Amir describes a young Barry Soetoro as enjoying playing football and marbles and of being a very devout Muslim.

"Barry was previously quite religious in Islam. His birth father, Barack Hussein Obama was a Muslim economist from Kenya. Before marrying Ann Dunham, Hussein Obama was married to a woman from Kenya who had seven children. All the relatives of Barry's father were very devout Muslims"
