Dealing 7.62mm death at 4000 rpm. The 30mm GAU-8 on the A-10 is an even bigger sight to behold.

ROCK AND ROLL!!!!

The only question I have is: "Why hasn't this Hell been unleashed on the ragheads?"

I don't know what the caliber is. Some miniguns are 7.62 but this one seems to inflict much more damage than that.

No, it's not a 50mm (I think you meant .50 cal). It's a 7.62 NATO. But it spits fire, huh?

The 7.62mm or 20mm (AC-130) six barrel minigun is used repeatedly on AC-130, UH-60 and CH-47 aircraft. F-15, F-16, F-18 and A-10 all have 20mm or 30mm (A-10)gatling guns.

I used to be a door gunner in VN, wish I had one of those instead of the M-60 machine guns with butterfly grips we used in 67. I saw the minniguns on the C-130s being used many times as a grunt and the rounds flowed down to the target like liquid fire, the same as in this video.

Please change your tagline. We have enough trouble here with the use of profanity, and do not wish to encourage the substitution of symbols for letters therein. Thanks.

I am reasonably certain that that is a Dillion Aero weapon. They have been making them for sometime and have fixed many of the issues that the GE version had. Most notably you can clear a jam in about 10 seconds. The GE required tools and about 20 minutes to clear a jam. Dillion improved the delinker and the bolt assemblies. The youtube video was shot at a range in Arizona I believe.

The power of the mini-gun become legendary in Vietnam, attached to Spooky and Puff the Magic Dragon. Underneath a gunship firing it's mini-guns, I've been nearly buried alive in hot brass.

mad,

I am not familiar with the Dillon, but I spent time as a gunner on AF SAR choppers in SEA and we used the GAU-2/B 7.62mm. Great weapon when it was working. The belts had self-disintegrating links but the tolerances were very tight and if you encountered a 'chink' in the belt you were in for one epic jam. You usually grabbed your CAR-15
because it wasn't the optimum time for weapon maintenance.

Oddly, the designers have chosen the 25mm gatling cannon used on the AV-8B for the F-35, instead of the 20 mm that has been used on the F-104, F-105, F-111, F-4, F-14, F-15, F-16, and F/A-18.

Funny how Murphy works overtime in war.

Google Dillion you may only find their reloading equipment information. The aero side likes to keep a low profile. Their reloading stuff is the best IMHO. Also one of the cable channel shows did about 20 minutes on the mini-gun. It might of been on the Military Channel but can't remember. But of course anytime Predator is on I have to watch the mini-gun scene. It is about 43 minutes runtime in the G version!!

I read a blurb on the web the other day that Raytheon has taken the basic Phalanx system and replaced the business end of it with a solid state laser. The article said that in tests it had shot down 60 mm mortars.

Going to be pretty cool when that system is ready to deploy.
