GOP ready to pounce on vulnerable pol [Kerry D-MA]

Bay State Republicans are circling like vultures around a politically weakened John Kerry, vowing to field a strong challenger that may be able to capitalize on his fractured image and snatch his coveted U.S. Senate seat.

One potential GOP challenger, state Sen. Scott Brown, said last night that he "would consider" a run against Kerry in 2008 and that the senator is ripe for the picking.

"I think he'll get a challenge this time. I don't think he'll get a free ride," Brown (R-Wrentham) said. "His handling of himself during this Iraq situation has been outrageous. He needs to be held accountable. Whether I’m the guy to do it or someone else, I think people are tired of his poor representation."

Wounded by bad press over his "botched" Iraq joke and rock-bottom poll numbers, Kerry opted not to make a run for the Oval Office in 2008, telling his colleagues on the Senate floor yesterday, "This isn't the time for me to mount a presidential campaign."

He's right. This state isn't ready to consider a Republican for Senate until something changes nationally to make us ready. We'd need an unpopular Democratic president and something to make New Englanders feel that it was ok to vote for Republicans again. Is that happening soon? I doubt it.

But if we lose him as a senator, we could be down to 4 Republican senators out of 40

And that would make a difference?

> Kerry will win in a landslide.

In 02 Kerry had no Republican opposition and polled 80% against a Libertarian whom the press refused to cover. It's a little optimistic to say that Kerry is "ripe for the picking," but he is in a weakened position, and likely will face a Republican in 08.

And that is what is important. The Republican party will come back here only if Republicans offer voters a choice by running against the Dems. Otherwise, it's one party rule as usual.

LIVE THERE? Not if you paid me. Not if hell froze over. Not if the Muslims all went home. And save it. I ain't buying it. Read the post here where the one person posted that only 11.5% of that state say they are RINOcrats/Republicans. Right. Sure. Tell me another fairy tail.

Not necessarily. Outside of Boston and a few pockets of moonbatism (i.e., the Pioneer Valley), I think the right conservative candidate could carry a state-wide federal election, as the suburbs and the rural parts of the Commonwealth tend to be much more non-liberal. Now, the "right conservative candidate" for Massachusetts is probably not the same type of person who'd clean up in the deeply-religious south, for example, but rather, a good, ol' fashioned, frugal Yankee whose conservatism was more libertarian than statist.

Sure, here's another fairy "tail"---that someone who doesn't even live in Massachusetts can tell me, or another native, all about it. Your opinion plus two bucks will buy me a medium, cream only, at Dunkin's, and give me back $0.22 in change.

"If it was any place but Massachusetts Kerry would be gone. But like Uncle Ted, my bet is as good as any one on here he keeps his seat til he dies".

...I disagree. "Uncle Ted" is a Kennedy. Kerry is no Kennedy. (whatever the hell that means. i never did get it) Teddy gets the luxury of having generation after generation of voters because of the previous generations ability to brain-wash. "Mom, Dad, Grandma & Grandpa voted for a Kennedy...what choice do I have"?

Like I said liberal, I ain't buying it. So save your .22 and eat at McKerry's. Your there, your apparently stuck there in a losing situation. So, live with it or move. But there ain't NO conservative getting elected in that state. You can dream all you want to friend, but it is a fairy tail. Pure and simple. End of conversation.

Whatever you say, Doggie. Turn tail and cut -n- run if it appeals to your cowardly nature.

If he gets his daughter out on the stump for him ,he might garner the votes of the idiots who watch American Idol.
She was in the final group. In addition, his wife, Gail Huff, is a reporter with one of the Boston TV stations. At least he would come into the race with a slightly elevated profile.

Excuse me? Perhaps you have never heard of Mitt Romney, who is no socialist, and was elected governor by a 5% margin over his Dem opponent.

Any chance for past Governors to challenge sKerry like Weld or Paul Celucci?

NO!

Weld tried it against Kerry and Romney tried it against Kennedy. Both lost.

Mass. just elected Deval Patrick Governor. A person who champions rapists, gay marriage and illegal aliens.

All this was known about Deval Patrick before the election and not hidden from the voters. They knew what they were voting for.

Deval's oponent was a woman who was Romney's incumbent republican LT. Gov. Kerry Healy. she got trounced. - Tom

Mass. elects republican Govs regularly, but not senators.

Romney tried to unseat kennedy in 94 when the Repubs did well.

Kennedy won the election with 58 percent of the vote to Romney's 41 percent.

The gigolo has $14 million left from his presidential run. That buys a lot of votes.

37% of us voted for Bush in '04, Scott Brown is a great guy.
Kerry has become an embarassment even here.
Never say never!
