The federal prosecutor who helped convict two U.S. Border Patrol agents sentenced to more than a decade in jail for shooting a suspected drug smuggler who illegally crossed the border from Mexico understands why the case stirred public outrage.
However, he attributes the anger to the portrayal of the case by the news media and said the media version "is unfortunately not the narrative the jury heard" before convicting the two...

Is this puke Sutton saying that's not the story?
If we had a federal government that did its job, and STOPPED ILLEGAL CROSSING OF THE BORDER WITH A FENCE, we would not be having this kind of incident, in fact, this country would be so much better off, it is difficult to describe.
But Mexico has its Manchurian Candidate, and a whole load more of them in the Congress. Illegal flow into the USA will go unabated as it continues today.
Two patrol agents shot an unarmed man in the back, at a time when they didn't know whether or not he was a drug runner. They then lied in their reports and destroyed evidence of what they had done.
Sutton had no trouble coming up with the shell casings.
Would you like to review the case before you start defending your friend Sutton.
Here's another one for you.
He was shot in the buttocks. I'm not sure where your buttocks are, but mine are in the back.
As far as "destroying evidence", do you mean something like converting brass shell casings into a quantum energy flux and then leaping into the 5th dimension?
They picked up shell casings and threw them in a canal, thus destroying the evidence of where they were standing when they fired their shots-- evidence that is crucial in any criminal investigation of a shooting. As trained law enforcement officers, they knew the importance of the shell casings and their location, so a jury could reasonably infer that they knew they did something wrong and had to cover it up.
You do not have them on your "back" unless you are some sort of birth-defect ridden person.
In ordinary parlance, we have several directions ~ front, back, top, bottom, leftside, rightside.
The Homeobox genes control that.
Then, once we get past that we get into the specific areas, e.g. buttocks, shoulders, calves, heels, lower back, and so forth.
The guy was not shot in "the back".
If he had not successfully fled to Mexico over the open border in that area the agents could no doubt have recovered his firearms.
Sutton probably knows where they are in fact.
We don't need a FENCE. Merely the placing of a few hundred anti-personnel "bouncing betty" land mines will halt this. Put some clay mores out with troops watching to take out the mexican military thats helping the drug smugglers.
Don't introduce facts into the argument.
sorry too few facts in the post to comment on...he was turning and looking back at the agents when hit in the side of his butt... he was armed and attacked one of the agents...the supervisors on the scene told them NOT to file a report (would have to wait for the FBI if they did so) and did not destroy any evidence... maybe you should read up on the "murder house" and jumpin' johnny sutton an Bush buddy who gets big envelopes for all the transportation activity in his jurisdiction...
I agree - if Bush hadn't utterly failed in his obligation to secure the borders, these guys would never have been in this situation in the first damn place. It flows downhill and it started in the Oval Office. I hold Bush entirely responsible for this.
Why should we believe this guy. Ongoing investigation Mexican, my foot. They want it to go away with these two agents still in jail.
In the region he covers, there has been 14 shooting incidents by border agents in the last nine years, four in which the suspect was killed, Sutton said.
Each time, he said, the agent wasn't prosecuted, because they had reasonable explanations for using deadly force.

It is too bad we have a government that cares more about other countries, than it does its own. The results of this are already tragically obvious. And just keep getting worse. Mexico just keeps moving northward, to say nothing of the crime, drugs, terrorists and poverty that are being exported into this country, virtually at will.
Washington fiddles while America burns.
Did you read the entire article?
Yes, I read the article. Did you?
The important thing is the lib who posted here is happy the two bad,bad border guards are doing 12 years while the Mexican drug dealer gets more opportunities to ply his trade. Can we now all hold hands and sing God Bless America? Oh wait once again we don't want to upset the lib, better make that the Star Spangled Banner !!!
Bonner concedes that one of the agents did gather the shell casings and toss them into the canal but insists that was a product of post traumatic stress disorder, not a cover-up.
"He was just assaulted and saw his life flash before his eyes," the union president said. "If his intent was to cover up the scene of the crime, he would have taken them a long way, not next to the scene of the incident where they could be easily recovered."
