Politicians who ran against Bush in 2006 won. Politicians who closely identified with Bush in 2006 lost. The smart money right now, and the increasing consensus among the electorate, says stick it to Bush to increase your stature among the electorate.
This may upset 'do or die' Freepers, but the problem with 'do or die' and 'all or nothing' is that you have a decent chance of 'die' and getting 'nothing.'

If we get a 'Rat wannabe, we got nothing anyway. Maybe this country is too stupid to know what it needs, because what it seems to want will only result in the destruction and possibly the loss of all we hold dear.

Tough bananas. it's two years away and if they can't make the base happy to hell with them. Might as well have real democrats as phony pubs.

I completely disagree. No one, not even Bush himself actively defends his positions. Even though, when explained to a person with average intelligence, they agree with him on most issues. Problem is, when faced with a choice between a "genuine" liberal Bush-hater, and a RINO wannabe suckup to the MSM Bush-basher, most people will go for the real thing.
