We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.
Trinity United Church of Christ adopted the Black Value System written by the Manford Byrd Recognition Committee chaired by Vallmer Jordan in 1981. We believe in the following 12 precepts and covenantal statements. These Black Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Blacks are gathered. They must reflect on the following concepts:
Commitment to God Commitment to the Black Community Commitment to the Black Family Dedication to the Pursuit of Education Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence Adherence to the Black Work Ethic Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect Disavowal of the Pursuit of "Middleclassness" Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the Black Community Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting Black Institutions Pledge allegiance to all Black leadership who espouse and embrace the Black Value System Personal commitment to embracement of the Black Value System. The Pastor as well as the membership of Trinity United Church of Christ is committed to a 10-point Vision:
A congregation committed to ADORATION. A congregation preaching SALVATION. A congregation actively seeking RECONCILIATION. A congregation with a non-negotiable COMMITMENT TO AFRICA. A congregation committed to BIBLICAL EDUCATION. A congregation committed to CULTURAL EDUCATION. A congregation committed to the HISTORICAL EDUCATION OF AFRICAN PEOPLE IN DIASPORA. A congregation committed to LIBERATION. A congregation committed to RESTORATION. A congregation working towards ECONOMIC PARITY.
Why should they be ashamed and apologetic?
Sounds like these folks have some mighty large chips on their shoulders.
Should read Presidential Candidate.
Well then, I guess you cannot be President.
Many of us adopted a value system written down somewhat earlier, on stone tablets...
But howcome, if Africa is the "cradle of civilization," it took them until 1981 to adopt a "value system?"
You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus,
for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
The White Value System written by the Senator Byrd Recognition Committee
Commitment to God
Commitment to the White Community
Commitment to the White Family
Dedication to the Pursuit of Education
Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence
Adherence to the White Work Ethic
Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect
Disavowal of the Pursuit of "Middleclassness"
Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the White Community
Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting White Institutions
Pledge allegiance to all White leadership who espouse and embrace the White Value System
Personal commitment to embracement of the White Value System.
Who knows? BTW, I'm not exactly sure what the "Black Value System" is. But I have a suspicion that whatever it is, it's not too good for White Folks.
Boy am I behind........I thought Mesopotamia (ms?) was the cradle of civilization.
It is posted in #8 word for word, except Senator Byrd replaced black with white and adopted it for his group.
Sounds racist to me !
Whaaaa???? Since they claim to be Christian, then where does Jesus fit into their picture? I see no mention of Him at all in their blatantly racist creed.

I Pledge allegiance to the all Black leadership
who espouse and embrace the Black Value System
And to the tin-pot dictatorship on which they stand,
One nation, under Barak Hussein Obama...
"Where does Jesus fit into their picture?
Evidently nowhere.
".....to become agents of change for God who is not pleased with Americas economic mal-distribution!"
So now God is displeased with our non-distribution of wealth? And who told them that? I wonder?
It looks like parts of their "Mission Statement" have more to do with the "Communist Manifesto" than the Bible and other parts resemble a "Mission Statement" of a a Black KKK.
They are not pleased by how the wealth is distributed, and they want the government to take it out of your pocket, and into theirs!
"true to our native land"
Shows what I know. I sang this song in church on the Sunday before MLK day and presumed it meant the United States of America. After all, by the time it was written (1899, I looked it up), both the authors and any person singing it was most likely born in the United States.
and there is no way on God's green earth we would ever consider moving there.
Remember what Farrakhan said? They had everything in Africa before the White man came and stole it. They even had wings and would fly around the Pyramids until White invaders came and shot them down. Well, apparently one thing they didn't have was gunpowder.
The Lord has blessed us with another exciting year for the Men's Chorus, and can you believe we are celebrating our 23rd year as strong African American men who are "Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian." It has been an awesome journey as we strive together as One Voice, One Choir.
I wonder - if I decided to join this church, would I be allowed to join the choir? Would they change any of the wording on their web page?
Ping!
What the heck?! I can't join their Church because I am a "Dutch-American"? What kind of Crap is that?
I was thinking the same thing. Their "black values systems" sounds divisive and racist.
Colossians 3:11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
This a UCC church. They haven't been a Bible-believing denomination for the past 50 years.
I just e-mailed them.......
bttt
And I thought the Episcopal Church was bad.
The United Church of Christ seems to be a very liberal church denomination. But it should not be confused with The Church of Christ which from what I gather is very conservative.
I kept on seeing Barry Lynn on TV enjoying using the title of reverend then one day got curious as to what church would except his philosophy so I looked it up.
Not surprising. UCC is way out in left field, has been for a long time.
What's troubling is people like Rick Warren (purportedly conservative?!) giving Obama such a good report and a platform at his church. I can't believe some 'conservative' people even on this forum can't see through Rick Warren's falsehood YET.
How can a pastor justify continually "editing" what he's publicly said???
No more so than any Evangelical church.
Interesting, a supposedly Christian has an entire web page where the word Jesus doesn't appear once. Shows you were their hearts are.
They're "unapologetically Christian"... as long as that doesn't interfere with their "non-negotiable COMMITMENT TO AFRICA."
The fact that probably 95% of them have never set foot on Africa, and that America is their true native home, seems to be beside the point.
American blood paid for their religious freedom. American soldiers bought and paid for their right to meet as Christians without fear of extermination by Muslims. Do they even begin to comprehend the differences between African and American life, and why those differences exist??
I don't think so. They sound particularly embittered and that isn't Christian.
Re your post #35. It looks like you are claiming that all Evangelical Churches have "chips on their shoulders". Is that correct?
I'm an Evangelical myself - so my critique must be read in that light. But a lot of Evangelical churches speak with a confrontational swagger a lot like this churches. You basically have to go either theologically liberal or post-modern Emergent to find a church that doesn't proclaim themselves to be "unashamed" or "unapologetic."
That certainly may not be consistent with Christian virtues, but it is not at all uncommon in Christendom.
BTTT bump
In response to post 13, Jesus Christ is mentioned on their website under the Mission tab.
So he belongs to the Church of Blame Whitey.

COMMENT:
Sorry for you brethren, that you post allegiance to Africa your native land.
You forgot to mention that you are race-baiting enablers of the worst kind, passing themselves off as phony supposed American citizens.
In my lowly red state wannabe opinion, you are no better than the cowardly muck diving Jihad sympathizers that permeate a lying scumbag group like WHO CAIRs.
Well, with all the money you have bilked out of a naive congregation a kin to a group like Jim Jones, buy plenty if one-way tickets.
Then, when the mood hits your sorry butts, just get up and move back to deep darkest black Africa.
A land where your children will probably die before their time, go uneducated, can run half-naked, drink polluted water, die of mass starvation, suffer from diseases such as AIDS and fight against other blacks who want to kill you because they belong to an abysmal religion of piece called Islam.
I am sure those in Africa would put up with your misguided views and laugh behind your incredibly ignorant backs that you would openly admit to being so miserable in America.
Laughing in great guffaws of amazement that you idolized mostly rat infested dictatorial nations over the sweet life of your current Chicago digs.
I will tell you straight up and this is the truth.
If you are so ashamed of being American citizens then do not let the door hit you in your sorry butts on the way out of the country.
Frankly, I am tired of constantly being sucker punched in the emotional gut by narrow-minded groups with parasitic scam artist leaders like yours, Jackson and Sharpton.
Really, I want you to be honest with yourselves for once, dont you think it is time to assimilate into the main stream of America life.
Flame Away
More than that, this is the presidential candidate who has accused fundamentalist Christians of being divisive. I sure hope America doesn't elect this hypocrite racist.
Love a Christian Girl
