***** UPDATE 2-5-07 *****

Planning to attend = = = 26 + a couple ?

SUGGESTIONS:
Valin asked where donations may be made to help fund any expenses the DC Chapter of FreeRepublic may incur for this event.
Donations can be made here.

From the desk of ViperAsh50#116:
We want to send a different message than the "anti-war/anti-America" surrender crowd, so we should be clearly set apart from them.

Wear a Red Armband on the right arm (Red often symbolizes/represents courage, revolution, hardiness, blood, and/or valor).

On the armband each person should print something, e.g. WWII, Korea, Nam, Iraq, spouse, widow, POW, Vet, Legion, patriot, citizen, etc., or other respectful phrase one wants to help us identify one another.

Post the related threads on your state boards to generate interest in attending.

Make up a pdf flyer and email it to every conservative blog, website, veterans organization and Republican Party club you can find.
( I remember that outstanding flyer Wayne! Care to design one for this rally? )

If any of you are going to CPAC, please mention this to the convention. It could help us with recruiting people to come to the counter protest, and the attendees could spread the word back home.

Contact local VFW, American Legion and Veterans groups.
*** 1stbn27 - #53 Veterans groups
*** W04Man - #76 message from and link to Vietnam Veterans of America.

Contact Rolling Thunder and Patriot Guard Riders.
*** angkor - #55 contact info for Rolling Thunder

(Anyone having contact info for these groups…please provide it here)

Those with connections, please contact RightMarch.com, Grassfire.org, Moveamericaforward.com, Young Conservatives of Texas, and other organizations.
(post contact info so others can help)

I won't wear a Red Arm band.

It strikes me as being too close for comfort to the type Nazis use to wear.

Instead I propose that every vet make up his own arm band using cammie or khaki cloth with his rank insignia on it as well as the service insignia for his service on it as well.

and following the customs of their service, wear them on the appropriate sleeves.

I intend to use a black Eagle globe and anchor on khaki armbands over my sergeant stripes after destroying one of my old shirts to make the armbands.

Hi,

I was told that this is where I should post my offer of a ride from Northern NJ for the rally. I'll be leaving on Friday and returning to Bergen County on Sunday. Room for 2 adults.

I have friends who have national mailing lists who are asking me for details...can we get something concrete out there?

Thanks!

Also wondered if you could recommend a decent clean motel.

That's a good idea, I cut off my stripes from my wool alphas for my nephew to wear on his clothes when he played, I still got some left

I am thinking of ayellow armband with my red stripes from my Alphas!

Welcome aboard and thank you for the offer of transportation! I will include it on the next update.

A list of hotel room suggestions are being worked on and will post as soon as completed.

If you are alone, you may want to take advantage of one of the offers of a bedroom at a FReepers home, listed under "Available" in the updates.

asking me for details

As stated above...
There are no formal plans at this time. Why plan a big rally/counterdemonstration if no one plans to attend?

Rest assured the DC Chapter faithful, with assistance from local citizens and troops, will be in DC on March 17th between 11:00 AM [or earlier] and however long it takes to ensure our presence is known [and our memorials are secure].

If you definitely want a hotel room (even though Freeper spare beds are fine!)you can check www.tripadvisor.com and look for the washington dc forum. Locals answer questions and can make recommendations about safe areas, decent places to stay. You can review the answers to others' questions on the bulletin board to; it's been useful for me. There's also a place to read reviews of hotels from real folks, not advertisements.(VERY useful!)

The important issues to watch (besides price) are (1)parking fee--some hotels charge $20+ day! (2)proximity to a metro stop. Although street parking (per DC freepers)is free on weekends,I find DC confusing;plus, I think there's going to be lot of folks there!

From the posts it looks like things are moving right along. I contacted NJ Rolling Thunder, several military sites, conservative blogs and college republican groups. Still on it here in New Jersey!

I'm hoping to get there. I will FReep mail you as it gets closer . I am mailing to everyone I know and taking a chance on blogs. Leatherneck posted the information.
I'm told no one cares in NJ...I don't believe that for one minute!

I like that idea, for the same reasons. So, if I were to go, would I tie a little apron with a little eagle, globe, and anchor on it around my arm?
