OSLO, Norway (AP) -- Former Vice President Al Gore was nominated for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for his wide-reaching efforts to draw the world's attention to the dangers of global warming, a Norwegian lawmaker said Thursday. "A prerequisite for winning the Nobel Peace Prize is making a difference, and Al Gore has made a difference," Conservative Member of Parliament Boerge Brende, a former minister of environment and then of trade, told The Associated Press.

Alfred Nobel, much like many other philanthropists such as Rockefeller and Carnegie, would be turning over in his grave knowing how deviant leftists control his well intentioned legacy.

Don't make the mistake of equating the Nobel Prize to the Nobel Peace Prize. These are two completely different prizes.

There are currently two "unofficial" prizes the Nobel committee gives away: The Peace Prize and The Literature Prize. Both have never been officially sanctioned as part of the Alfred Nobel program.

The real prizes given in Chemistry, Medicine, Physics and Economics are very much respected and recognized worldwide for what they are - the finest award in the world for the best scientific achievement in those respective fields.

It is the Peace and Literature prizes that have been littered with Liberal and stupified nominations. With that said, the Literature prize has been given in the past to deserving writers. However, the Peace prize is completely "unofficial" and is not truly recognized around the world as a true Nobel prize.

I was under the impression that the Peace Prize was Nobel's idea.

Nobels and Oscars are all very well, but I for one won't be impressed until Al wins for the two-step on Dancing With The Stars.

Anybody can be nominated. I think all it takes is a letter from a Congressman and you're in. A radio talk show host in Los Angeles got such a letter after executed killer Tookie Williams got nominated. The radio guy just wanted to prove how easy it was to get nominated. He wouldn't reveal the name of the Congressman because it was just a big joke, but he was officially nominated.

He could use some dance instruction. Do you remember him and Tipper lumbering around the stage to Fleetwood Mac's "Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow" at the '92 Democrat Convention? That sight totally ruined that song for me.

So the devaluing of the Nobel Peace Prize continues.

So he has made global warming go away?

"There are currently two "unofficial" prizes the Nobel committee gives away: The Peace Prize and The Literature Prize. Both have never been officially sanctioned as part of the Alfred Nobel program."

You may want to check the Nobel Prize website to get accurate information--they include peace and literature with the other categories you mention, and they've been giving them away since 1901. Nothing unoffical about that. Also, remember that Carter received it in large part because of Habitat for Humanity as well as the work done by the Carter Center in attempting to peacefully resolve conflict.

He may have been a bad president, but it's hard to imagine begrudging or condemning him for his post-presidency work. Isn't Habitat for Humanity exactly the sort of non-federal-government, volunteer-based program that we are aiming for with faith-based initiatives?

The only good thing about him winning, if he does, is that it will drive Bill Clinton mad!

Bubba is not the only one who will be peeved. I'll bet the hurling of ashtrays and lamps in Chappaqua has already begun. To think that Herself could have added this honor and photo op to her resume.
