You have to apologise to rednecks now? A lot of people identify themselves as rednecks.

Coon ass = redneck
Nope. A coon ass is from South Louisiana; a redneck (aka a stump jumper) is from North Louisiana.

Coon-ass has been used by Louisianans for years and its only due to PC that it has become offensive. In fact most Cajuns aren't offended by it and refer to themselves as "coon-asses". Anyone that buys into the PC mentality is a loser and against free speech.

Coon ass = swamp dwelling redneck.
Not an unfriendly phrase, but in these times...

I've never run across a coon-ass that was offended by being called a Cajun. Of course, some folks think I ought to be offended when someone calls me a Cracker.

Coon ass = redneck Not precisely:
Although some Cajuns use the word in regard to themselves, other Cajuns view the term as an ethnic slur against the Cajun people, especially when used by non-Cajuns. Socioeconomic factors appear to influence how Cajuns are likely to view the term: working-class Cajuns tend to regard the word "coonass" as a badge of ethnic pride; whereas middle- and upper-class Cajuns are more likely to regard the term as insulting or degrading, even when used by fellow Cajuns in reference to themselves.
