One of the students mentioned to her friend that there were bunches of Middle-Eastern guys buying phones in the Radio Shack at Metrocenter, Jackson, MS.
About 13 men or so bought the tracphones and her clerk friend also said that many of them came in buying phones in the afternoon as well.
I contacted the FBI in Jackson already.
I think you meant to say Pakistan...the country that sent the subway bombers to London.
So in 21st Century Republican America, anyone engaging in capitalism to make money should be suspect of providing support to terrorism? Sheesh!
No, they are doing it to make money! You can make anywhere from $20 per phone re-sold domestically to over $100 per phone re-sold overseas.
Look, if you want to freak out every time you see people with different colored skin and eyes, that's your right.

I like people with all different shades of skin and all shapes of eyes. I have many of them in my family.
I don't like Middle Eastern or "Asian" men who want to kill me and my family, and who buy thousands of potential detonators.

Are you actually saying that activity that can be construed as suspicious, should just be ignored in all instances? Because we all have to assume like you do, that it is harmless? Are you daft? Wake up, my friend, wake up.

I'm not going to dive into the fray here, but how many whites or blacks engage in the same practice if it happens to be so lucrative? I haven't heard of any. Secondly, it isn't right to freak out everytime you see someone with different colored skin or eyes, because then I'd be freaking out every time I saw my wife and my students.
Suspicious is suspicious. If an Arab buys a lot of phones, check it out. Better to do it now then have a lot of people die.
That article came out before the US Register of Copyrights declared unlocking cell phones to be legal. It was a gray area before (no "controlliong legal authority" so to speak), but as of Nov 2006, it is now legal. So they didn't commit fraud either.

Buying a cell phone on sale at a discount to re-sell it at a higher price is not "suspicious," it's capitalism. And yes, it should be ignored. The FBI has much much more important things to do.

Maybe thats because they weren't guilty of any wrongdoing other than engaging in capitalist practices to make money. While the left might want to criminalise such antisocial behaviours it is not a crime.

You do understand, my friend, that this is merely your assessment, and not facts. Are these friends of yours buying the phones?
That's because reselling the phones here in the US gets you only about a $20 profit per phone, but reselling it overseas will get you over $100 profit per phone. Most people with connections to places to re-sell them overseas are recent immigrants who have a connection to a family business back in the old country where these phones can be used. And the place where these phones can be re-sold in street markets is mostly in India, the Middle East, and parts of Asia.
Suspicious is suspicious. If an Arab buys a lot of phones, check it out. Better to do it now then have a lot of people die.
If you are really concerned about terrorism, then you should want the FBI to be persuing real leads and not diverting agents off onto a wild goose chase every time someone buys more than one cell phone at a time.

when they are forced to investigate non-crimes it detracts resources from real threats.
Do you know for a FACT this is nothing? No..and neither do I. But I would feel a lot better knowing for a FACT it is nothing.
One day people my become too complacent and when things go BOOM those same people will want to know why and why weren't we protected. Why did no one see or say anything. Just like those flight schools.
