One of the students mentioned to her friend that there were bunches of Middle-Eastern guys buying phones in the Radio Shack at Metrocenter, Jackson, MS.
About 13 men or so bought the tracphones and her clerk friend also said that many of them came in buying phones in the afternoon as well.
I contacted the FBI in Jackson already.
There's a difference between proper vigilance and overreacting paranoia.
Whatever happened to the "reasonable man" test?

I think it's simply beacause the " Middle-Eastern men buying cellphones " thing has been shown here to be simply nothing to get upset over.
"vigilance and attention " is fine, but this particular situation has allready been shown to be no kind of threat and many FReepers will respond to it with attempts at humour, some with more success then others. ... Relax

I don't understand the flip answers on this thread. There was a special on Fox last week and thank goodness someone had the forsight to think it was suspicious that ME men were buying hundreds of dollars of cigarettes at a time and it turned out to be funding Hamas. These cell phone purchases may be the same thing.

Good job. I used to live in the Jackson area. The metro mall is dead and is located in a bad area of town. That would be the perfect place to do biz if I was up to no good.

Re: using cell phones to set-off remote IEDs... I've wondered why we don't use our aerial EW birds (like the EA-6B or EC-130) to routinely send a huge cell phone pulse to all cell phones in Iraq, thus setting-off any such bombs before they injure Americans.
The phones are sold at a loss in hopes that people will buy pre-paid minutes in the months to come. What some savvy people (some middle eastern) have figured out is that they can disable the electronic lockout in them making them useable by various plans and then sell them for quite a bit more than they paid for them.
IOW, usually this sort of thing is free-enterprise (albeit an unethical flavor) in action and not terrorism.

The government won't take this seriously until bombs start going off in all our shopping centers and other areas of large gatherins. These guys aren't doing this for nothing. More political correctness run amuck.
