Taleban forces retake Afghan town(Brit soldiers brokered peace deal)
BBC ^

Taleban forces in southern Afghanistan have taken control of a town which British troops had pulled out of after a peace deal with local elders.

Some local people said they were leaving the town, Musa Qala in Helmand province, for fear of bombing raids on the Taleban by Nato forces.

US commanders and diplomats had criticised the deal.

They said it had not been done with elders but with the Taleban themselves and was not the way to defeat them.

Controversial change

The BBC's Alastair Leithead in Kabul says the loss of Musa Qala to the Taleban is a blow to the strategy of establishing peace deals in Helmand

It looks like Britian may have "gotten the message" from the november elections as well.

I'd suggest we all start learning Arabic, but what's the point, we won't be able to say much with our heads laying next to our dead bodies.

Since when do we bargain with the taliban? This was boneheaded from the word GO.

Yep. It's sad this had to happen during my lifetime. Thanks, hippies. You have all but destroyed the world.

Not just allied with pacifists, we are currently surrounded by them, especially in Congress. Do these people have any idea what will happen when/if these moslems - and OK, I will say it: there are no moderates among them; they are all terrorists, some are just louder than others - take over? They are just here waiting to achieve critical mass (Has anyone ever, any place, seen a moslem woman who is not pregnant and dragging at least 3 children with her?) and then look out. I really would rather fight them in Iraq and Iran than in Chicago and Louisville, but the democrat party - with a lot of help from some Republicans - seem to be choosing otherwise.

The AMericans will be taking the lead in this area in the next few days. The taliban retaking the town was NOT part of the negotiations with the towns leaders, and in fct the taliban apparently killed some of those leaders. So now the yanks will clean up the mess.

This only means a bit more saliva for the BBC and NYT who hope for the great "Taliban Spring Offensve" every year. You have my word, that this town will be retaken within the next days or weeks.

Nontheless a incredibly stupid move by the Brits. This is justanother PR victory for the jihadis and their liberal allies.

Hell yeah he is. "I don't like to bleed for the same ground twice," he said. I've lost count over the number of villages we've "retaken". I'm ready to just start clearing them off the map.

I cannot believe these ragtags from the dark ages essentially win over the finest, most modern forces in the world. Oprah should try to build a luxurious school for girls there. Hah.

Yeah the Russians tried your "clearing them off the map."

How did that work out for them?

This was a great move on the part of the GB. They have scattered the Taliban. We don't want onesies and twosies of Taliban running around. We want them to recongregate and then we will wipe them out again. Wash, rinse and repeat.

Reverse strategery.

False comparison. We were the pivotal force in the Soviet's defeat. Furthermore, neither the USSR or the U.S. were/are using all their capabilities to end the war as quickly as possible with victory.

In Islam, there is no delineation between civilian and warrior. Our posterity, if it is to exist, demands their complete and utter destruction. We have ways of making that happen in a matter of minutes. It is only a lack of testicular fortitude that prohibits our success.

Uh, the Russian military machine has only really had success when they are invaded. A comparison between the US military and virtually any other military on earth is, quite frankly, unfair.

"After our victory in Afghanistan and the defeat of the oppressors who had killed millions of Muslims, the legend about the invincibility of the superpowers vanished. Our boys no longer viewed America as a superpower. So, when they left Afghanistan, they went to Somalia and prepared themselves carefully for a long war. They had thought that the Americans were like the Russians, so they trained and prepared. They were stunned when they discovered how low was the morale of the American soldier. America had entered with 30,000 soldiers in addition to thousands of soldiers from different countries in the world. ... As I said, our boys were shocked by the low morale of the American soldier and they realized that the American soldier was just a paper tiger. He was unable to endure the strikes that were dealt to his army, so he fled, and America had to stop all its bragging and all that noise it was making in the press after the Gulf War in which it destroyed the infrastructure and the milk and dairy industry that was vital for the infants and the children and the civilians and blew up dams which were necessary for the crops people grew to feed their families. Proud of this destruction, America assumed the titles of world leader and master of the new world order. After a few blows, it forgot all about those titles and rushed out of Somalia in shame and disgrace, dragging the bodies of its soldiers. America stopped calling itself world leader and master of the new world order, and its politicians realized that those titles were too big for them and that they were unworthy of them. I was in Sudan when this happened. I was very happy to learn of that great defeat that America suffered, so was every Muslim. ..."
