Advertisements in Superbowl - Snickers commercial

Last evening, as I watched the Superbowl with my nine year old son, I became extremely annoyed at the MARS Corporation and their advertisement for Snickers which showed two guys locking lips. I can't even fathom why somebody thought that this would be a good advertisement for that particular product and why they chose to air it during this event, especially when they knew children would be watching. If their aim was to draw controversy in the hopes of increasing sales, then I sincerely hope they missed their mark. I hope that, instead, they lose sales because of their idiocy.

I called in and registered my strong disapproval this morning at 1-908-852-1000. (If you call, when you get the phone tree, just press "0")

Our family will not be buying MARS products ... Products that MARS makes/distributes: M&M'S, SNICKERS, MARS bars, Milky Way, Skittles, and TWIX.

Superbowl commercials are a dying art form.
At one point in time they used to be pretty good, some even great.
Alas, now they are just 30 seconds that someone paid 29 million dollars for.

I really don't understand the why they felt it necessary for the nod the gay community. Do gays feel left out of the candybar experience?

And what is with having Prince at half time?

It was 2 mechanics working under hood of a car, one bites into a Snickers and the rest is sticking out of his mouth and the other guy bites into the other side of it and they chew to the middle when they accidentally touch lips. They both jump back and acknowledge that they accidentally kissed and need to do something to prove to each other and themselves that they aren't gay, so they each pull a wad of chest hair off their chests.

It was predictable and dumb, but nothing to get your panties in a wad over.

I agree. I'm hoping that you called the number and that subsequent readers of this post will do the same.

One of the funniest of the night.

The Puritan wing of FR can't discern between a funny commercial and blatant homosexual activity.

People will get outraged at the lingerie section in the Sunday paper but will say nothing about the sleazy XXX bookstore down the street.

The commercial was ridiculous. It portrayed the two white males as dumb and unsophisticated, especially when they both realized they may have just "kissed" after sharing the candy bar.

There were only 2 commercials I liked. The rest were sophomoric and just plain unfunny. It appears the ad companies aren't running on much talent these days. I also noticed there were no patriotic commercials this year - doesn't Anheuser Busch usually do one?

When I hear snickers, I'll never be able to think of anything beyond:

Happy peanuts soar, over chocolate covered mountain tops, and waterfalls, of car-a-mel. Prancing nougat in the meadow sings a song of satisfaction, to the world...

I understand the reason for the blackcentric commercials, but does every group need a such direct advertising?

And what is with having Prince at half time?

I thought Coke's GTA one was brilliant as was the Kevin Federline one. I also like "I threw paper. I threw a rock"

You called a 900 number?

My exact thought...

I saw the commercial, thought it was really stupid and thought about how it'd piss off the lads over in Palm Springs.

But how does two guys kissing make one want to run out and buy a candy bar????

It made me sick to my stomach. The thought of a Snickers bar will now forever be associated in my mind with that disgusting scene.

Incidentally, who was that they got to do the National Anthem. The fags have even taken over that!

awful commercials and worthless halftime show

How dare you challenge an American tradition? The lip-synched crappy half-time show and the idiotic special commercials are part of Superbowl and must never be tampered with, or America will collapse.

What was wrong with having Prince? He has more talent in his little finger than all the past Superbowl halftime stars combined.

Honestly, seeing people berate this commercial is almost as bad as reading the NY Times piece on how every violent commercial was somehow showing undertones of the Iraq war. Lame. I agree, the commercial was funny and had nothing to do with homosexuality. The *point* was that they both wanted that snickers. They didn't 'kiss', they're lips touched and they pulled back. I'm telling you there is a thread on DU about how the commerical was homophobic. Geez, get a life people!
