Out of Control: Chris Matthews Drops F-Bomb In MSNBC Rant Against Bush
NewsBusters.org ^ | February 7, 2007 | Rich Noyes

Posted on 02/07/2007 8:41:26 AM PST by RatherBiased.com

"Hardball" host Chris Matthews lurched even further off the deep end on Wednesday’s "Imus in the Morning." After praising the “great job” Rudy Giuliani did in cleaning up New York City — which Matthews again suggested was done with just “a pinch” of fascism — the MSNBC star went on a rant declaring how he’s “sick of southern guys with ranches running this country.”

Losing control, Matthews dropped the F-bomb on national television: “I want a guy to run for President who doesn’t have a fucking — I’m sorry, a ranch.” As host Don Imus began to snicker, Matthews plowed ahead with his Democratic talking points: “Wouldn’t that be good, Don, a guy who wasn’t on the ranch during Katrina, he was on the street corner answering questions?”

Video clip (1:25): Real (2.32 MB) or Windows Media (5.39 MB), plus MP3 audio (409 KB)

Radio listeners were spared Matthews’ cursing, but no such luck for those watching the MSNBC simulcast. After saying goodbye to Matthews about three minutes later, Imus and his crew mocked their MSNBC colleague. MSNBC's on-screen file photo of Matthews was altered to include a black censor bar over his mouth. Executive Producer Bernard McGuirk suggested Matthews was the sort who would “put on a diaper and drive 900 miles to abduct Dick Cheney or somebody,” and someone else offered that “he’s crazy.”

Imus was the diplomat: “But isn’t that what we like about him? I love his energy, his passion.”

Here’s the transcript of Matthews’ comments, which happened at about 7:45 ET.

“We love good mayors because we love our cities and Giuliani is the city guy, and I’m so sick of southern guys with ranches running this country. I want a guy to run for president who doesn’t have a fucking — I’m sorry, a ranch. Wouldn’t that be good, Don, a guy who wasn’t on the ranch during Katrina, he was on the street corner answering questions?”

Matthews: Slip, unintentional

I'm sure he unintentionally revealed how ignorant he is about American politicians. Many Presidents have farm or ranch backgrounds.

Why put any faith in anything said by such an ignoramus?

Yeah well I might be frothing but its only because it took 50 years of effort to get the country to lean the conservative direction only to have them throw it all away in 6 years by the Jolly Rancher.
GW is a good man.Just a poor manager and President his heart is in the right place.
I mean I'm a good baseball player I just can't hit the fastball, curveball or catch.
In a perfect world I'm a Newt Gingrich guy.But its not, and Rudi is the only one that will beat Hillary.

What do you expect from the man who may have helped boss
Tip O'Neil write the Russians that he would help cut the political legs out from under Reagan during the Cold War.

I've long ago learned not to waste my time arguing with people who appear to be frothing-at-the-mouth.

Just remember, fully HALF of the people you encounter in life are below average.

(It eases the frustration when dealing with the stupid.)

"Rudi is the only one that will beat Hillary."

Well, Bill never did. Insiders say it was the other way around...

The other F word that Chrissie likes to throw around is "fascist." This is standard lib-speak for anyone to the right of Oprah Winfrey.

Excellent point.

Matthews is a throwback to the Know-Nothing era.

I was watching the I-Man but missed the F bomb. Matthews was slobbering way too fast.

BTW, Imus asked Lou if he had caught it in time. Lou told him that he had not. Imus then told Matthews, "There is something wrong with you." And, he went on to ask Matthews if he would say that on his own program, and Matthews said, "probably not." Imus said something like, "Well, no one watches your program, anyway."

All this is is another example of how good Imus is as an interviewer. It ain't your mom and dad's Today Show.

...Matthews nearly broke down and cried on camera...

So did Peter Jennings.

So, I'm assuming that someone who actually saw this filed an FCC complaint ... I hope...

I'd love to hear what Olbermann will have to say in defense of his fellow unwatched MSNBC-er, but I can;t bring myself to watch the show.

But Rather was very tough. To date, he never gave Ohio to Bush! LOL

Being Yankee born,I spent a lot of time working and traveling in the South.Generally, I found the folks down there more easy-going and courteous (particularly on the highways) and actually race relations better than up here.
Frankly, I'd rather live down there than the liberal Democrat cesspools up North.

Imus, for all his whackiness, is a really good interviewer. He can get away with asking questions that so-called serious journalists can't.

A guy who told Kerry to just "stop it, Go Home" after the Botched Joke can't be all bad. Plus, he has vowed repeatedly to never have Hillary on his program. He claims to detest Hillary.

Or, no place to call home except government housing i.e., Arkansas governor's mansion, or the white House?

just like the guy who was on the phone, with foreign diplomats, with his manliness in Monica's mouth, Chris, is that the kind of guy we need?
