CNN) -- The Grammy Awards were nice to the Dixie Chicks, who won song of the year, a songwriter's award, for "Not Ready to Make Nice." The Chicks -- Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Robison -- shared the award with Dan Wilson, formerly of Semisonic and Trip Shakespeare. "I, for the first time in my life, am speechless," said Maines, who became a controversial figure in 2003 after making critical comments about President Bush. "Not Ready to Make Nice" was a response to the controversy; after Maines' comments, the Chicks' songs were pulled from a number of country music stations and the group was pilloried by former fans. The Chicks have won three awards. They also won best country performance by a duo or group with vocal and, after the song of the year award, were honored with best country album for "Taking the Long Way." "A lot of people just turned their TVs off right now," Maines said after the country album award.

Yes, I saw a videotape of that. And recently I bought the book version of A Christmas Story (with exc. from In God We Trust
and Wanda Hickey), and the Shep books Wanda Hickey's Night of
Golden Memories and A Fistful of Fig Newtons!
Some of Jean's old "Shepherd's Pie" and "Jean Shepherd's
America" shows are available if you know where to look
(link on flicklives.com). He did one show just about beer
that was pretty interesting. Just the way he embraced the
word... BEER... (well before Homer Simpson came along)...
great voice & sense of humor :)
Now hang on just a second there, hispanarepublicana. As a newbie Spanish speaker I have to ask -- shouldn't "alarma" be preceded by the article la instead of el, being that it's of the feminine gender (as indicated by the "a" at the end)? Either "el alarma" is an exception to the rule or it should be la alarma (or el alarmo), no?
STARLAND VOCAL BAND
I saw random snippets of the show earlier on. What I took away from the Grammys:
(1) Smokey Robinson still sounds amazing.
(2) Christina Aguilera has a long "legitimate" career ahead of her.
(3) Stevie Wonder facing the wrong direction during the standing ovation for James Brown was really funny.
did nat thank the freerepublic?
Indeed, with "Taking the Long Way" the group members have said they don't consider themselves country artists anymore.
they ADMIT they dont consider themselves country any more,
so why are they are they winning "country awards" &why are they angry &whinning that they were abandoned by
their "country fanbase".
they really are stupid.
what i find funny is that they, these grammy people think that this kind of thing is a slap in the face of Bush, what they dont seem to REALISE is that Bush dosent give a crap about what ANY of them think of him,he's even STATED so.Hes the President, hes the guy in power, what DC got was a "mercy award"-Bush will be gone after 08,what about them, what about their careers.
WHEN YOU HAVE TO REACH DOWN AND BE INTRODUCED BY JOAN BIAZ?
YUP NOT MUCH TO BRAG ABOUT...LIKE I SAID BEFORE THEY WILL OPEN FOR THE JANE FONDA TOUR OR CINDY SHEEHAN TOUR SOON
The way I understand it, all members of NARAS get complete ballots, and can vote in any (or every) category, whether they have any expertise in that category or not. That's why so many Grammys don't make sense. People fill out their ballots, they want to complete them, come to categories they don't know anything about, and vote for the only person they've heard of. Explains a lot of Grammy nuttiness. On the other hand, I didn't get to see the show, but learned Irma Thomas finally won a Grammy. Now SHE deserved it, and I wish I'd seen it!!!!
Didn't this all start when the singer announced onstage (in a foreign country no less) that she was ashamed to be an American?
We're not ready to "make nice" either.
I agree "not ready to make nice" Don't quite trust you Chickies.....Your all of a sudden not about music anymore.
You sold out .....What profit a man......
I've never heard a single cut from any of their albums ...
That I can remember!
Weird thing. WLUP, "The Loop" 97.9FM in Chicago used to be and still is, in a way, the standard rock music station. Yesterday I drove into Chicago and back, and they were doing "uninterrupted" albums, which were interrupted between each cut to tell you that they were uninterrupted. On the way in - Pearl Jam's debut album, TEN. On the way back - INXS, KICK.
Q101 plays "alternative music", but it's mostly from the 80's and 90's too - Smashing Pumpkins etc.
Did Rock 'n Roll finally die ?
''Alarma del barf''. Love it! Nice to know that 'barf' is genderless...heh heh heh.
;^)
Dixie Twits delendae sunt!

The Grammies (along with the Oscars, Emmys, and all the other Hollywood 'award' shows) are worthless. Milli Vanilli won one.

Remember that "Shalimar" won the best album and best new artist grammys over Elvis Costello's "My Aim Is True," one of the five greatest albums ever made. The Who and Jimi Hendrix nver won one, and Elvis Presley and the Beatles hardly scored either.
The "Chicks with Dicks" are to music what Sean Penn is to acting: hamfisted turds.
No Rock and Roll hasn't died...
Unfortunately...Executives from the 60's era are hijacking shows and robbing young artists. They are politicising every medium they can. If you don't play the game, you don't get the Fame.
Cant you see how IDOL has treated people, we watch, but they can do whatever they want...play the game get the fame. It lines the pockets of all the Exec.
Poor Anna Nicole..played the game..got the fame..Yup now shes gone...
Dixie Chixs...playin the game...get the fame....misreable inside...because no matter how much they say they aren't country...they live a lie....
Price of Fame......your soul.
Kudos to those who don't play...Looks like Chili Peppers did't bite into the political game, beautiful Carrie, Mary J. and JZ, Beyonce
Who knew? and who cares? Does anybody actually watch that junk anymore?
