Obama: Why I’m Running

To chants of "Obama! Obama!," he told the crowd: "It was here, in Springfield, where North, South, East and West come together that I was reminded of the essential decency of the American people -- where I came to believe that through this decency, we can build a more hopeful America."

If the 45-year-old Obama were elected, he would become the nation's first African-American president. "And that is why, in the shadow of the Old State Capitol, where Lincoln once called on a divided house to stand together, where common hopes and common dreams still live, I stand before you today to announce my candidacy for president of the United States of America."

Obama told the crowd he would tackle problems like poor schools, economic hardships and oil dependence, saying a "failure of leadership" is to blame for not meeting the nation's challenges. He also implored the crowd to demand that there be "universal health care in America by the end of the president's first term."

He called the Iraq war a "tragic mistake" and said, "It's time to admit that no amount of American lives can resolve the political disagreement that lies at the heart of someone else's civil war. That's why I have a plan that will bring our combat troops home by March of 2008.

Didn't we hear KERRY constantly repeat that phrase, "I HAVE PLAN" every time he stepped to the mic...but NEVER uttered one word of what the plan entailed? Looks like Obama's going to use the same ploy.

Since Hillary and Obama are speaking the same Polit issues, IMO the Dems are headed toward slotting them as a team. Question is, WHICH will be Head Honcho on the ticket?

A Hillary / Obama ticket would be relatively easy to get rid of; a Hillary / Richardson would be tougher to knock off.

You have got that right Ivan, the Hispanic vote would go there.

Furthermore, a blue state / blue state ticket would have trouble - particularly if a Blue State Republican is tapped for President or VP. Richardson opens up the West as well as the Latino vote; furthermore, he looks like less of a pinko subversive than Obama and Hillary.

No doubt. It'll be interesting to see how much pressure she'd be under to pick Obama.

True although we saw how much help Edwards from a red state helped Kerry.

The picture is hilarious. Fox started their Weekend F&F edition with a split screen of Lincoln and Obama. Needless to say, I was quick to the remote button. I can only take so much! LOL

"Why" Obama is running is because he can gather a warchest of MILLIONS that he can spend damn near any way he wants, while being the "Anti-Condi"......

IF Condi decides to run for the #1 or #2 slot, Dems counter with the "Great Half-White Hope"...

There is zero excitement in the nation about potential Republican candidates, at least not in comparison to Obama and Hillary. The race most Americans are interested in is Hillary v. Obama, not Dem v. Republican.

Americans are tired of Republicans.

One of these two will be our next president.

Edwards is a special case - he only became Senator out of a fluke election, not because he was genuinely popular. Richardson, for all his sins, is relatively popular in New Mexico.

"If the 45-year-old Obama were elected, he would become the nation's first African-American president. "

The Dems will have a choice. The first Black President or the first Female President?

OR they can have one of each on the ticket..

Which order will it be? What to do, what to do?

He was not exposed to any decency whatsoever in the time he spent dealing with his elected colleagues in the Illinois legislature. When it comes to criminality, the government of the State of Illinois takes a backseat to no one.

On Fox & Friends this morning they showed a clip of Obama in Springfield and their reporter in Washington compared Obama to "another junior senator from Illinois." Wrong--Lincoln lost his bid to become senator.

When I hear the Dems - Barack Hussein Obama, HRC, Edwards - talk, I don't know what country they are talking about. And they speak in such platitudes I don't know if it's 2007 or 1932 or 1864.....
