How Could We Not Like Rudy?' Says Log Cabin Republican Boss

Sacramento, Calif. -- One of the leaders in the nation's oldest and best-known gay Republican organization signaled tonight that the favorite GOP presidential candidate for his group in '08 was Rudy Giuliani.

"How could we not like Rudy?" James Vaughn, executive director of the 30-year-old Log Cabin Republicans, told me at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, where California Republicans were gathering for their state convention this weekend.

"He has always been openly supportive of the gay agenda and won't apologize," said Vaughn, who served as the liaison to gay and lesbian Los Angeleans under former Republican Mayor (1993-2001) Richard Riordan. "As mayor, Rudy backed domestic partnerships and appointed openly gay people to city positions."

Of former Massachusetts Gov. and '08 hopeful Mitt Romney, Vaughn said he "was very pro-gay while governor" and recalled how in 1994, he wrote the Log Cabin Republicans to say "he could do more for our agenda than Ted Kennedy [against whom Romney was the Republican opponent that year]."

Of Romney's effort to distance himself from his past statements on the issue, Vaughn said: "He's trying to be something he's not. Rudy Giuliani once wore a dress [in a comedy skit in New York], but no one would believe he's a woman. Mitt Romney is now going out in conservative drag, but no one will believe he's a conservative."

What's kind of annoying is how much time/energy is going to be wasted for a full year before anyone even votes in a primary. Then you watch...by the third primary, prolly most of the so-called frontrunners will be toast.

Do you think homosexuals will cross in the primary to vote for Rudy?

I was on a few threads where Rudy supporters said Giuliani WASN'T a Log Cabin Republican.

Giuliani to Address Log Cabin Republican Convention
publications & resources > publications archive > 1999 > Giuliani to Address Log Cabin Republican Convention

August 23, 1999

New York City Mayor (and likely GOP Senate candidate) Rudolph Giuliani will deliver the keynote address at "Liberty for All" - the 1999 Log Cabin National Leadership Conference on Saturday, August 28 in New York City. The conference, the largest annual gathering of gay and lesbian conservatives in the nation, will also include a plenary debate on the state of the gay movement featuring author Andrew Sullivan, Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund Executive Director Brian Bond, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Policy Institute Director Urvashi Vaid and Richard Tafel, executive director of the Log Cabin Republicans. The conference also will focus on increasing civic activism by gay Americans through workshops on fundraising, campaigning and grass-roots organizing. For more information, please contact Log Cabin Republicans Director of Public Affairs Kevin Ivers at (202) 347-5306.

I don't know what bothers me more - the fact that every day we get more and more and more reason to vehemently oppose Rudy, or the fact that there are Republicans who hear these same reasons and just don't care.

"So the hell what if the government took your gun away? Your taxes are down 2%, what the hell else do you want?"

RINO = Log Cabin = Dems in the Closet.

If you want to know the true nature of the SO CALLED moderate (RINO) republicans, read the gay blogs. They are the enemy within and they are funded by George Soros Rainbow Network monies that ALSO fund the democratic Victory Funds. Since they are infiltrating as 'republicans', they now have access to our own RNC donations.

Excerpt:

The sources, who agreed to be interviewed only on condition that their identities be withheld, said Guerriero and his top lieutenant, Political Director Christopher Barron, have “aided and abetted” Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry through their media criticism of the president.

Guerriero and Barron have said they accepted invitations to appear on television news programs to promote their efforts to defeat the Federal Marriage Amendment, the proposed constitutional ban on gay marriage. Log Cabin paid for a series of television ads opposing the legislation.

Some of the critics have circulated anonymous e-mail messages claiming that Barron "worked" for Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards, the senator from North Carolina, before Guerriero hired him at LCR.

[Log Cabin stands by Guerriero - Washington Blade - 10-22-04]

Excerpt:

recent "non-endorsement" of President Bush based on "principle" is now also called into question. Is it possible that coordination between LCR and the Kerry-Edwards campaign intentionally engineered the "non-endorsement" as a way to suppress the votes this year of the supposed one million gay voters for Bush in 2000?

[Log Cabin GOP Political Director Unmasked As Former Edwards Campaign Operative - GayPatriot - 10-21-04]

Excerpt:

Patrick Guerriero, executive director of the Log Cabin Republicans.

"The reality is the type of outrage that is being expressed by some Republicans should be expressed at themselves. They've decided to use gay families as wedge issues across America in swing states -- that is truly outrageous," he told CNN's "American Morning."

[Log Cabin Republicans - Press Release - 10-18-04]

RNC will never get another dime from me until they REMOVE the LCR.

They prop up their Most Liberal candidates

Log Cabin Republicans campaigned AGAINST Bush in 2004.

Log Cabin (Republicans) need to account for where they got the money to fund the $1M ad campaign against President Bush in 2004 in key battleground states. This is a Federally-regulated organization (IRS and FEC rules apply!), but they have never documented where this money came from.

Lots and lots of people don't like Rudi because he is anti-gun; thus, anti-self defense. All the BS, AND all the pandering, AND all the spinning, AND all the gushing, AND all the outright lying to the contrary, the fact remains that Rudi is anti-gun. Period. He was anti-gun before, he is anti-gun now, and he will be anti-gun in the future. The fools who believe he has changed or will change that position deserve what they get!!
