Prayers for Nowak but few answers
Houston Chronicle ^ | 2/12/07 | ROBERT CROWE and SARAH VIREN

For those who don't know her, Lisa Nowak might be just the centerpiece of a salacious media scandal that makes for a great Saturday Night Live skit, but to her church, she's a fellow parishioner who could really use some prayers right now.

"It's a perfect example of what St. Paul said, that when one member suffers, we all suffer," said the Rev. Dominic J. Pistone Jr. of Nowak's Clear Lake parish, St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church. "When one person is honored, we all rejoice. That's the same here."

For the second consecutive week, Nowak did not make St. Clare's 9 a.m. Mass. She and her husband, Richard, regularly sat in the second row of pews with their twin 5-year-old daughters as their 15-year-old son assisted as an altar server.

In good times and bad, she and the other four or five astronauts who worship at St. Clare have been in parishioners' prayers. The parish prayed for a safe flight and return in July, when Nowak flew on Discovery on flight STS-121. It was the second flight since the Columbia tragedy of February 2003.

"We love her, we're praying for her, and we wish her the best," Pistone said.

After the parish prayed for her Sunday, Pistone visited Nowak at home to pray with her and give her communion.

"Lisa, God love her, she's not alone in a family that's experiencing troubles right now," Pistone said.

I have no sympathy for her...if she were a guy, she'd still be sitting in a prison cell right now.

Congratulations, you must feel mighty superior now.

How would you feel if your sister? Your daughter?

Jail cell aside, it is the fact that people get so much satisfaction out of the suffering of another person, family and community that is alarming to me.

Wonder if it was your daughter that was the victim of a successful version of such a despicable crime????

Since when have you started feeling sorry for attempted murderers as opposed to disdain?

She's lucky in some ways. She's lucky she was unable to pull it off, she's lucky that people will still pray for her and support her family, she's lucky that she is a woman and will get a slap on the wrist instead of a hefty sentence. She's lucky people will buy her soon to come temporary insanity plea.

If she was the typical joe schmo who attmpted this, you'd be rightly calling for his head.

well, what in the world? What happened?

I really don't know.

He has had temporary timeouts on occasion.

I'm not sure if this one is temporary or not.

After the parish prayed for her Sunday, Pistone visited Nowak at home to pray with her and give her communion

After she broke up her family and committed a handful of felonies.

Well, I admire Catholic Priests. It's their job to save souls. But this lady is sooooooo lucky she was unable to pull off her intended crime.

Many focus on the diapers. But that does not seem nearly as odd to me as to what she carried with her for an alleged chat with her 'rival.' And what was she supposed to chat with her anyway since there was a restraining order - filed a couple of months earlier?

"Sure it is, and it has all happened in the last month."

Yeah, it all 'just happened' in the last month.

Sure it did.

Why do you think this is open for interpretation? It is recorded fact that she and her husband split up a few weeks ago.

You really think she just woke up one morning a few weeks ago and decided to destroy her family and try to murder her rival?

Cleary, it's been 'all about Lisa' for a long, long time.

Tom Wolfe, the novelist and author of "The Right Stuff", told Fox News that he is very suspicious of this whole story. It was handed to the media in too neat a package by law enforcement. He thinks there are some layers to it not yet disclosed.

No, the restraining order was filed *after* the pepper spray incident.

Then there sure were many false statements made in the media regarding the restraining order.
