No story yet...just a headline.

(UPDATE)

BAGHDAD, Feb 13 (Reuters) - Iraq's government said on Tuesday it had closed its borders with Syria and Iran and extended the hours of a night curfew in Baghdad under a U.S.- backed security plan to rein in violence in the capital.

The measures ordered by Shi'ite Prime Minister Nuri al- Maliki were announced on Iraqiya state television by Lieutenant General Abboud Qanbar, the Iraqi commander who is leading the U.S.-backed security offensive in Baghdad.

Qanbar said the border with Iran would be closed for 72 hours. He did not say how long the border with Syria will be closed.

They need to close them at least 2 weeks to see what effect it has on the terrorists.

Probably part of a larger operation or investigation, is my guess.

if you are going after rats, you seal the exits first. Bet a lot of rodents will be heading for them soon as the nests are burned.

Probably part of the cleanup operation in Bagdad...and to keep Iranian 'diplomats' from hightailing it home.

My guess is that there is a belief that the border guards have been corrupted by Syria and Iran and will be shut down to transition the military to the borders. They will probably also be ladnminining or placing infrared sensors along the crossable but unmanned areas all in preparation of the internal clean sweep.

They had better do something because it's clear that the media has convinced the electorate to push for a U.S. troop withdrawal and allow for the 10,000+ Iraqi people massacre to begin.
