"She paid for Bongo's food, Libot said."

"I guess the cheetah didn't like the food she paid for......"

Perhaps she decided she wanted to BE the cheetah's food rather than just paying for it.

Somehow I don't think the Cheetah got that memo on the trust thing.

Even a domestic cat is likely to do that kind of thing. We are just lucky that a tabby is a lot smaller than a doberman.

Animal rights group GAIA called for the immediate closure of the zoo, located 55 miles northeast of Brussels, saying it was unsafe for both visitors and the cats.

Reminds me of a peace corps mauling story.

The setting is some tropical 3rd world country. A couple of Peace Corps types go to the local river to take a swim. One local told them they had better not since the river contained crocs and they couldn't watch out for them with only two people. To which one of the Peace Corps types said "It's Ok, we're in the Peace Corps". Like that is some magical ward against nature or something?!?!??! Much to no one's surprise(except theirs), one of them didn't make it back to shore alive.

Why people believe that wild, vicious, predatory cats and other such beasts are safe to interact with is beyond me. (Maybe it was suicide by chetahs?)

This is often the outcome when animal loving humans tend to attribute human characteristics to dangerous animals. Animal lovers suggest it is all in the way the animals are treated/raised and if you follow the rules of engagement, animals will be gentle, kind, and loving like humans. Same argument delivered by dangerous dog-breed owners when the pitbull suddenly turns on its owner.

Unbelievable.
They tricked her into the cage and then killed her.

They probably planned it.

Yep, she was really committed, as opposed to just being involved. Just as in a bacon and eggs breakfast, the chicken is involved, but the pig is committed.

This would make a great Far Side cartoon. Gary Larson should depict the cheetahs having dinner and the woman is a telemarketer or something.

Apparently the cheetas didn't sign the agreement of reciprocity between PETA and the animals they pretend to protect.

Live prey is always better than a carcass. Chase prey, kill and eat. It's what they do. Maybe she never watched a nature program on the TV.

I KNEW this would be a good thread!

==============================================================

Curiously enough, a few of us were discussing this very sort of thing Saturday--{in person, not online}. Y'all may recall the woman who climbed into the lion cage in Spain; the woman who climbed into the tiger pit in China; the woman who stuck her arm into the big cat cage in Colorado and the woman who did the same in Florida --both were employees IIRC. These incidents happened in the last few years.

Well, at least there probably wasn't a long drawn-out chase preceeding the mauling.

"The higher the climb little Cheetah goes,
The more behind little Cheetah shows."

I would love to pet a tiger or a lion. They are beautiful. But I am not crazy.

I think many people tend to anthropomorphize characteristics regarding dangerous animals. Nothing more beautiful than a Polar Bear which will kill you in a moments time if given the chance.

But they are beautiful. Don't pet the animals.

Sorry for this poor woman and her family.

That was probably more than what Maureen O'sullivan wore in the Tarzan pictures. Anyway, I was amazed at the fact that Cheeta is still alive. He is 74 years old and the longest living Monkey.
