Veterans to organize support for Hunter presidential campaign U.S. Veteran Dispatch --- February 02, 2007

Saying he's "more of a Reaganite than Ronald Reagan," a group of military veterans are backing the presidential candidacy of U.S. Congressman Duncan Hunter, (R-Calif.)

Hunter has served 13 terms in the House representing the San Diego area, home to a major navy base, and was chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. He remains the ranking Republican member. Hunter announced his race for the presidency earlier this week in South Carolina.

Larry Bailey, a retired U.S. Navy Seal, is behind the push by his fellow veterans.

"Duncan has been a friend for 20 years," Bailey said. "He was in the 173rd Airborne Brigade (and the 75th Army Rangers), and saw some tough, tough times. He was an enlisted guy, and he received a Bronze Star."

Hunter has been ahead of the pack with his support for the military and national security, Bailey said. ...

U.S. Veteran Dispatch Publisher Ted Sampley, a former Green Beret and Vietnam veteran, has placed his name and the endorsement of this Web site behind the Hunter campaign.

"He's conservative, pro-defense and his basic belief is that if you want peace, you have to pursue it through strength," Sampley said. "He knows what the American people want. We're trying to set up a 1-million-vet Web page for people to sign up for Hunter and declare their support."...

A Hunter's Warriors Web site also is on the way, Bailey said.

"The Web really enhances our ability to contact people," he said. "We're expecting a real groundswell. The Rolling Thunder guys are behind him, and we're working with another guy whose son was killed in Iraq and he wants to do a rally in Washington to counter (Jane) Fonda and (Cindy) Sheehan." ...

Any man worthy of Larry Bailey's and Pete Webster's support can count on mine as well.

I did see Hunter last night on FoxNews - a great American. I do hope he doesn't come off to the mushy middle as an "angry white guy". That surely would be the image that Hillary would try to portray in him. Remember what the libs did to Dole. After he lost the election, Dole seemed to loosen up a little and I remember people saying that they wished they'd known how funny he was, that would have helped. I fear the MSM will portray Hunter as an angry white guy ESPECIALLY if he has to run against the perpetual victim, Hillary Clinton.

I've been posting these comments by Donald Rumsfeld regarding Hunter from last November's North Times article on some threads. Seems especially appropriate here:

"It is something when he comes into your office like a whirling dervish and starts discussing a subject first at the national level and then down at the microlevel, and then leaves you pieces of metal on your desk that you can hardly lift and has explained exactly where it goes, what it's for, why it should be there and then wants to know why it isn't. And God bless him for it."

"He's never let the troops down, and as a result of his leadership and his hard work, our nation is a safer place today," Rumsfeld told the dinner gathering that included Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

I like the chances of an angry white conservative over the screechy harping crusty pantsuit.

Just be careful of what context you use that in. It could be misinterpreted.

You make a good point only if the right issues are emphasized. If we put abortion at the top of our list (as we are doing when we trash Romney and Rudy) we are doomed. This is exactly the issue that that the crusty pantsuit will emphasize... Government in our bedrooms and in our bodies (of course that's what she'll say). If we stress, War on Terror, Immigration, Strong Economy we can win.

Partial Birth Abortion (PBA) is an abomination. It's ban is supported by 70% of the population. I don't think Hillary wants it to be a topic for discussion. As for national security, NO ONE can touch Duncan Hunter.

Partial Birth Abortion is the EASY topic on abortion. However, soccer moms and their naughty daughters aren't going to give up all the other abortions because PBA is an abomination. Bush said to change people's hearts. If we have an angry white guy threaten young women with the law, we would be handing her heinous an easy victory.

Consider the normal use of words within quotes between first and last names. Stan "The Man" Musial, for instance. You don't want people thinking that you're calling Hunter a RINO.

My pleasure. The original article is a great read. I highly recommend it. Just do a FR article search with the phrase "Hunter's Bid" and it'll pop right up. I bumped the article yesterday, but it didn't catch fire. There's a lot of terrific stuff in it, though.

This vet is...He needs to build some momentum, but he's got a lot of time to do it. The MSM will do him no favors, so it's important we at the grass roots get his name up there in the new media, particularly local and regional talk radio, local newspapers and right here on algore's very own internet....

I think not. The polls on abortion have been moving right, not left. There is a reason Dems haven't been running around praising R v. W these last couple election cycles.

" If we stress, War on Terror, Immigration, Strong Economy we can win."

Better throw in stopping the queer agenda and the gun banners. Those are popular issues even for most of the Rat voters. The rats tied themselves to the lefty loon fringe and we have to use it against them.
