But I don't understand the McCain matchup poll.
Look, I don't disagree that we need to support the most rightward PARTY in the general election. What I hate and detest is when the powers in the party choose a leftward candidate. An example of this is the outrage we faced in CA at the coronation of Arnold as our savior... that turned out as expected.
You don't have convince me and others on FR. We're here because we're politically active. You have to convince the average conservative voter who votes his values that he is better off having a Chaffee or a Specter. That argument hasn't been made effectively enough or Nov 2006 wouldn't have turned out as it did.
I would prefer the party stop paying lip-service to conservatives while giving us left-leaning leadership. If they did that we wouldn't have to be out showing everyone else how the political calculus adds up.
Give people something to vote FOR rather than against and I think we would see an energized base. We haven't lost when the base is energized. We have lost consistently when the conservative coalition of the base is marginalized.
That's my two cents on the subject.
