Lookie who was at the July Daytona race.
~sigh~ Flash failed inspection. Car 1 inch too low....will start in 42nd place...
If I am first after the ping, am I first?
It would be the FIRST time for me!
YeeHaw! The wait is over!
Let's get to racin'!!
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Jeff Gordon's Duels-winning racecar failed post-race inspection on Thursday, dropping the former Daytona 500 winner to a 42nd-place starting spot.
Gordon's car was deemed "close to an inch" too low, according to NASCAR officials, due to the fact that a bolt on the shock fastener was misaligned.
NASCAR vice president of competition Robin Pemberton said he feels the action was unintentional.
No fines or point deductions will be assessed, according to Pemberton.
"We're sure this wasn't intentional," Pemberton said.
Despite the infraction, Gordon still goes into the record books as the winner.
Almost, you're close, kinda like post race inspection depending.........
Oh well, maybe he will pit and take two tires at the last caution and have Stremme push him to the front. (We can hope, can't we?)
Spring is in the air and its time for another year of rooting against my two least favorite drivers.
It sure has been a crazy year already.
That is one pretty header on the thread. Uh, about that cube.....
Waltrip currently at the mike for Speed calling out the truck qualifying. He's not his bubbly self, but doing OK.
Thanks for the ping and the time you and all the others invest into putting together the racing threads. It is much appreciated on this end!
I'll never catch up!
Any word on the mis-fire for Flash?
At least he will be in good company at the back! :)
Just figured out that the mouse scroll's BOTH ways!
No rush if you owe... :-)
Nice to see Jr. close to the front.
Yahoo! will undergo a site-wide system upgrade from this Thursday, February 15, at 10:00pm PST through Friday, February 16, at 4:00am PST. During that time, you will not be able to register for the game or make line-up changes to your Fantasy Auto Racing team. Thank you for your understanding.
ping to 21
Nice Rubik cube. lol
Wonderful job WCG! A super way to start the season!
Can we pick now, huh? huh? Can we huh, huh?
Bummer about the 24 car.
It's a long race, if he has a good car , he'll be up in the front pack by the half way point. just have to avoid the Big One and the rookies..
Just shuffled the driver picks a bit after that tidbit, Thanks!
What a crock. They hand out all these penalities and fines. But Noooooooooooooo, not with good old black haired golden boy. Now you tell me, with all his experience that he doesn't know that he's riding an inch lower?
I am shocked that the others fined and penalized have not spoken up. I say, YET.
OK, that was my rant.
But why wasn't this picked up during inspection?
I'm shaking my head tooo..
INADVERTANT MY ASS! The bolt was misaligned -- you are going to tell me that the crew of a FOUR TIME CHAMPION and members of the Same Race team as the defending Champion DON'T KNOW HOW TO INSTALL A SHOCK?????????
Sorry - NASCAR set the bar with the Penalties to Kenseth and the Evernham Team on AERODYNAMIC INFRACTIONS. Then they undo everything in one fell swoop by kissing LIL JEFFY's BUTT and telling "oh we are so sorry we caught your team cheating again. It will never happen again Mr. Gordon Sir. Please tell Mr. Hendrick we are sorry to inconvenience him."
And how would that bolt know exactly when to drop?
Both shocks inadvertant?
Sure seems to be a stretch that both would drop the same. The shocks themselves maybe, but they didn't say that.
Still can't believe they haven't identified MW mystery substance. Talked to an old timer today who's dad 'almost' built the Martinsville track (he couldn't see any future in it). He said they haven't even proved there was a benefit from it.
Don't think I'll make the second race, just about to crash and burn. :(
Hey, we had little snow thingies this morning!
Welcome to my world!
We get them lil' snow flakes by air drop that would put the entire Air Force ta shame!
I'm still waiting for global warming to hit here......I'll be waiting for a long time I think!
Nobody has answered my question yet. Why wasn't this picked up on inspection? One inch lower is one inch lower. Dahhh.
I had to wear my old spiked golf shoes to get to my van at the top of the hill. 110 foot driveway was all ice.
Hey, just a few weeks in March I'm going to spring training to watch some games in Florida. I will be coming back for the 17th in DC though.
If Rudy shows up at the race, I guess that I will just bust a blood vessel.
And with an almost wrecked car thank to MW. The team and the driver did a hell of a job to keep that car in contention.
Yes NOW NOW NOW!! LOL
And you can change your mind up until 5 minutes before the race, but don't cut it too close.
Thanks Per, it gets harder every week coming up with something new and interesting!! :)
Although Nascar keeps us on our toes here lately. And Yates gave me a good top pic!
Hey don-o doncha like my cube?? :)
Thanks so much for the comment IWTK.......I'm always cruising looking for "stuff" for our threads!!
NYT did the lineup screencaps........I should have given him credit on that!! I was so pooped last night I wasn't thinking straight.
Just on Fox cable....Jeff at the after race news conference interview. They asked about the car failing... He say's "are you serious, that sucks" Then he said something about do I get to start the Daytona 500? He got blindsided by that question because he didn't know the car failed inspection. He was actually shocked. [no pun intended]
But thanks to global warming we had ice this morning and with a frozen faucet, I had to go back and forth for water to thaw it out.
It just ain't natural! ;)
Per, yeah it's amazing...we either got a MORON installing shocks or somebody in tech mismeasured or there's some magic bolt jiggymabob that undid itself and realigned itself at 190 mph during the race.
The Yahoo story said a fastener BROKE?...the whole thing stinks.
It would be MUCH EASIER if NASCAR would PUBLISH their super secret rule book to the public. Then, we could ALL see the rules.
We have ice outside as well and it's darn cold. Even the dog didn't want to do his long walk......he just about pulled me back to the house!!
I am going to watch the two races on tape this AM...
Did you see Flash's reaction at the post race conference when a reporter told him his car flunked? "You've GOT to be kidding me, that sucks"...
Yes I saw that, I posted above he looked "shocked" LOL
Go Tony Go!!
