I'm really sad to see this. This man was an outdoor legend. The fact remains though that the damage he has done to the shooting sports cannot be undone. With the ugly gun ban back in play in congress I'd bet my bottom dollar that his ill fated column will be quoted with gusto by the usual suspects.
Penthouse to outhouse in three days. Just damn.

"Im learning that many of my pals own AR-15s and similar firearms and indeed use them for hunting. I was totally unaware that they were being used for legitimate hunting purposes. That is the absolute truth."
He still doesn't get it.
The Second Amendment isn't about legitimate hunting purposes.
It's about the right to keep and bear arms.

His stupidity, arrogance, hubris, and ignorance is going to cost us all.
Being a gun writer, even mostly about hunting, missing the growing popularity of AR based rifles is sort of like writing an article "Hey! There's a new polymer pistol from Austria!" in 2006.

Nobody is to blame but zumbo himself. He still managed to slip a couple of instances of self-pity into his apology. Nobody is "turning backflips", we're just shocked at seeing one of our self-appointed "gurus" stab us gun owners in the back.

I dont own black guns....I am from the old school and own M1 garands, carbines, original trapdoor springfields, 03-A3's a couple of original Winchester 1873's.
I dont like black guns....I have no intention of ever owning one....if I wanted a full auto submachine gun I would look for a Thompson......
........but everyone in American has the right to go out and buy one if they want to....and I vehemently oppose anyone who tries to take those rights away from us.

It is very sad to see. Personally, I would accept his apology. His statements were on a blog and perhaps he really didn't think clearly think through what he wrote. Even good people say stupid things on occasion.

Jim's words will be used for years as proof that mainstream shooters think the second amendment is about hunting.
He still thinks so; the POV he expresses above makes that clear, it's all centered around sporting use.
Reasonable, commonsense sporting use of appropriate firearms.
I do feel sad that his world, so long a safe fun place for him, is tumbling down around him. I hope he lands a good gig somewhere where he can't hurt anyone. On the other hand I think the same thing should happen to "sports writers" and "hunting experts" and "target shooters" in the media who don't understand the way the United States was set up. Maybe Zumbo's downfall will cause some of them to crack a few books and learn.

The machine has many other uses besides hunting!
This is what I posted on the outdoor life forum!
***
Just one final statement.
I've been sitting here getting more and more fed up with all of this talk about these, pieces of machinery, having no legitimate sporting purpose, no legitimate hunting purpose, people, that is not the point of the second amendment!
The second amendment is not about duck hunting, and I know I'm not going to make very many friends saying this, but it's about our right, all of our right to be able to protect our selves from all of you guys up there.

Solid proof that hitting the pocket book actually works. It makes people think (or lie) and correct themselves. Now all we have to do is, is it sincere or did he have a Mel Gibson moment and really let his inner thoughts out? Could be that it will work on Bank of America also. If thousands close there accounts there and complain they may drop their credit card to illegals.

Geez, watta dumba$$.
When I read this cats screed, I went to the kitchen and got a fork.....I knew he was finished right there.
Was he stupid?
Yup.
Was he uninformed?
Likely.
Was he out of touch with gun owners of the US?
Alsolutly.
And because he is so out of touch, his going away will be no real loss.
Sorry you lost your job dude.
Sorry you lost your sponsers.
Maybe retirement is your best options. Cause sure as the sun rises tomorrow, your ill advised statement will show up in the gun grabber media -- sooner rather than later.
And for that - goodby and don't let the door hit ya on the way out.

Outdoor Life, a magazine that I worked for full-time as Hunting Editor for almost 30 years, fired me yesterday. My TV show was cancelled yesterday. Many of my sponsors have issued statements on their website to sever all relationships.
