A family of four, with two children and an annual income of less than $9,903 -- half the federal poverty line -- was considered severely poor in 2005.

I wonder if they count government assistance.

Actually, I wondered if my kid was included in that stat, based on income.

Of course, he is in HS, lives with mom and dad, and blows all his money on junk - maybe he is the extreme poor?

(Well, not really. He has SOME money in the bank).

My son and his girlfriend made a combined $28K last year bouncing around from jobs that pay above minimum wage. There WERE none that paid minimum wage.

Combine that with living at home and they were living high on the hog.

They all have cell phones, cars, cable TV, and are 150 pounds overweight

The stats they cite most likely only count reported cash income. Welfare benefits, "under-the-table" income, child support to mothers, Earned Income Tax Credit, etc are most likely not counted

Wonder if this was $9K before they received the $4,500 Earned Income Tax Credit, plus food stamps and welfare.

Or was this all welfare and EITC?

And the poorest city in the country is the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., with 10.8 percent being severely poor.

Then how do they afford all those really neat GUNS???

I thought we solved the WOP during the Clinton administration. For eight years( 1993-2001) I never heard about poor people or homeless people.

You left out food stamps, free health care, subsidized housing, and financial aid for college.

I believe in hand-ups and NEVER not handouts.

I am a very caring guy that grow up as the oldest of 6 brats in a dirt poor family. I WORKED my way out of it.

I have had tons of money and I have had little. At one time, I was down to 36 cents, had no food, no job and I slept on the floor of a phone booth. From there, I got up, dusted myself off, took a spit-bath in a gas station restroom and climbed my way to wealth. I did it without help, without handouts and without breaking the law.

Today, I'm just 'comfortable' and retired. My present range of wealth is by my choice.

Happiness can be found by the wealthy or the poor. Happiness will never be found by those that sit around and do nothing but complain about how they got some raw deal and base their existence on what they can take from those of us who WORKED FOR IT.

So, they can get off their butts or starve to death.........their choice and thus their consequences, should not, and will not effect me or mine.

I see this article as ground work for a nation wide theft and nothing but more of the same treasonous garbage put out by the dims and msm.

SOLUTION: If every Liberal gave half their income to the "poor," poverty would be solved. If every Liberal gave their "Second Home" to a homeless person, "homelessness" would be solved.

BUT, Liberals are the greediest b*stards you'd ever meet. They would rather complain about a problem then solve it, and want someone else to pay, while they take the credit.

Yeah, I'm in severe poverty, too. Think I'll elect Democrats to steal from my neighbors - - using all the force of big government - - so they can give me "free stuff" in return for my vote. That's the way it works, isn't it?

So what is CBS going to do about it? --

besides paying out more money for polls and studies so the media celebrities can live the life of luxury they've become accustomed to?
