Is this the same Test Pilot School that the Crazy Astronaut trained in?

Just put some duct tape on it, It'll be as good as new...

For an old plane the T-38s are tough.

The Space Shuttle was not so lucky. A hail storm went over the pad yesterday. We heard the weather alerts for the strong band of t-storms w/ hail. They are checking for damage and hedging their bets on whether or not the next mission will fly (ET foam damage). I thought those might be NASA T-38's when I saw the headline.

Good grief. Somebody needs to sit those pilots down and make them read the NTSB report on Southern Airways 242.

Ah, a proud day for my Alma Mater. Somebody's day is going to be ruined over this, unless they were misled by controllers or something like that. Pax River doesn't want the "Sil scarf in the wind" attitude like in the old days.

At some AF base there is a sign "Except in time of war, there is NO good reason to fly through thunderstorms!" - or words to that effect.

Hail and aluminum don't mix too well...

I imagine that would not help the pilots pass USN Test Pilot School....

Blessed to be alive - the canopies must be made of some tough stuff. And the noise must have been horrendous. I experienced a Colorado hail storm while shopping in a metal-roofed building once - sounded like the end of the world.

Or AlLi alloy covered in foam, or RCC. Ref: Space Shuttle Atlantis.

I listened to an IP one day chewing out a nuget for not staying close on his wing as they entered a thundercloud. The Hornets took a beating but the Navy logic was to train as you fight and stay on coarse.
