Sugar and Spice, Corrupted by Vice

Must everything be sexualized these days?

A recent study has concluded that exposure to sexual imagery can cause psychological as well as physical harm to children who are exposed to it on a regular basis, especially girls. This is bad for children. It isn't rocket science.

It is self-evident that the current generation of Baby Boomers, while currently occupying the positions of power in the government and media, are --to a large extent-- responsible for the messages being sent through the various media formats, whether they be Internet, print, or audio/visual.

It is also self-evident that the current generation of Baby Boomers has no intention of applying any enforceable standards of decency to these forms of media.

Take television. Explicit sexual imagery used to be confined to the wee hours of the morning. But due to the explosion of violent, sexually explicit programming now available on cable television; a consequence of the liberal penchant for instant gratification; the major networks, and even "hard" news programs (no pun intended, really...) have somehow deemed it necessary in recent years to titillate their audiences nonstop.

To the author: Your points are correct, but it's patently hypocritical to preach about decency and morality in media when you're using terms like "clusterf#@&"

That's why I didn't use the proper term..

Point well taken, though.

Thanks,

Legislators don't want to ban that which they enjoy so much.

I agree with the earlier. I am infuriated by the constant use of genital and copulation references, no matter the subject.

The subliminal message sent was that by showing enough leg or perhaps a breast, a good looking female may be able to squirm out of a ticket.

That wasn't a "subliminal" message, but a plain one - and reflective of a reality of American life - attractive women are frequently allowed to escape sanction for their behavior just because of their looks..

The piece ends with a visibly chagrined Danica Patrick, unable to seduce the cop, because she was a female officer.

Come on, they stole that scene from the 80's movie "Cannonball Run". And if they really wanted to push the envelope, Danica would have been chagrined not because the officer was a woman, but because her ploy succeeded anyway. ;)

One of my neighbors is actively involved in the "Media Violence" organization.

To be honest violence does not bother me as much as the "sex sells" attitude. Many parents try their best to monitor what their child sees but one can't watch TV without seeing a commercial that is sexual in nature. Then you go to a mall and walk by Victoria's Secret and a bigger than life poster of a nearly naked women.....I am not a prude but I am tired of it being shoved in my face.

You just said it all. I agree 100%. Liberals consider covservatives that don't want ANYONE'S sexuyality rubbed in our faces prudish.

That was the point of the article. There used to be a time and a place --a proper setting-- for sexuality. Now you can't even escape sexual imagery or subject matter in the 2nd or 3rd grade

Did you ever hear the story --I think it was in Massachussets-- where a young child came home with a "diversity bookbag" full of homosexual propaganda. When the father went down to the school board meeting to protest, they had him ARRESTED. I have the notes somewhere, because I mentioned it in a previous piece.

Thanks

That by itself would be OK, were it done with virtuosity. But at the level it is being done, it's trite and primitive. As an example, in the earlier 70s one of my fellow students at moscow university managed [do not ask me how] to emit what seemed to be 20 seconds long fart which he unmistakably modulated to be the opening of soviet national anthem. Me and a couple of other witnesses collapsed from laughter. This is a good example of virtuosity and artfulness. They all should strive for such level.

BWWWWWWWWAHAAAAAAAA!!!
Geshhhh, whadda guy.
A slam-dunk for American Idol.

"Me and a couple of other witnesses collapsed from laughter."

Overcome by "Laughing gas", eh.

"This is a good example of virtuosity and artfulness."

Why can't it just be called adding to Global Warming.

...& leave it at that.

As a BB that hasnot had television in my home since 1997, I'm afraid I don't know what they are talking about.

And my family is better for it...

LOL! I'd rather not think about the details of how that was done, but I'm sure it was quite a thing :-).

I hope the young man survived!

Oh, yes. He survived perfectly. As nobody would have believed such a thing possible, there were no official repercussions for him. He was a natural - as far as I know, he had not had any specialized training [at least in farting], but he had quite a talent as a mime.

Thanks, N&V!

To blame the Boomers is patently ridiculous. We are not, by any stretch of the term, part of the "target demographic". We are also quickly becoming even more outnumbered as we either die or retire, diluting whatever influence the writer thinks we have as "regulators".

We grew up with twin beds, manikens as bra "models", bikinis that were little more than one-piece bathing sits with a 6" strip missing between the top & bottom...and that strip then used to add short legs to the bottom.

As we got older, we squirmed as ads (later at night) started to mention "feminine products".

It didn't really start to "get sexy" until the Post-Hippie years. It has been a long, slow slide ever since.

I have one TV. No cable. The TV is there for use if something timely needs to be watched. Or to watch a video or DVD with company.

With FR and the internet, who needs TV?

Right you are!!! It's time we got some stones and thrust this form of speech pollution back into the festering womb of darkness from which it was so lasciviously spawned, holding only that which is pure to our bosoms.
