Walter Cronkite Forgets Saddam Husseins Name During Interview About Iraq Posted by Noel Sheppard on March 1, 2007 - 00:05.
Former CBS anchorman Walter Cronkite was in San Jose last week to give a speech at the Commonwealth Club. Before he did, he gave an interview to the local CBS affiliates Hank Plante (video available here).
In fairness, Cronkite seemed very tired, and a little out of sorts. However, there were several moments during the interview when Cronkite forget simple things like who the former tyrant and leader of Iraq was and another when he stated that Barack Obama is in his twenties. Honestly.
With that in mind, here were some of the more interesting highlights first with his opinion of the Iraq war:
We should have gotten out a long time ago. This is a mistake, this entire war there, it's a disaster. And the earlier we get out the better It's a terrible disaster. Look at the loss of lives of our young Americans there and those who have been maimed for life, for what purpose? No purpose we can define.

I think its already lost, the Iraq war, as far as our participation in it. We havent made any friends with that. We havent saved anybody from any worse existence than they had before. Weve made it more difficult for all of them, and difficult for us. I think it was a mistake from the beginning. We ought to get out sooner rather than later.
As a result of Iraq:
I think were probably less safe. The entire Arab world has now put us down as an enemy. It's going to be a long time for us to take back any suggestion of friendship with those nations.
Then came the first memory lapse with the discussion still on Iraq:
It was a bad idea. A really bad idea. The idea of getting rid of what was his name, Ive forgotten his name.
Saddam Hussein, Walter.
And the next one, this time about Sen. Barack Obama:
I dont think theres a color problem with him quite honestly. I think hes brilliant, hes attractive. Hell do well. The problem is not color, but age. Hes still young. Quite young in his young twenties. Thats a little too early.
Yikes. Thats quite a brain
well, you can fill in the blank.
How could he forget Obama Hussein. Sheesh!
"And that's the way it is....I think."
I didn't know he was still alive.
Earth to Walter: Minimum age in the constitution to be a U.S. Senator is 30. Of course, your kind has probably never read the document.
That's pretty darn funny.
Alzheimers. No doubt about it. And all those years at the CBS Anchor's desk, nobody had a clue.
That's right Walter. He's in his early twenties and running for president. How ignorant or senile do you have to be to make that statement?
Considering that the minimum age for a Senator is 30, that's quite a mental error.
Walter Cronkite: "We're the left. We don' need no steenkin' Constitution!"
He was a young fool before he was an old fool.
He failed his audience when JFK was killed and he had almost nothing to say when the Apollo astronauts set foot on the Moon. That said, I think it's a cheap shot to go after an old guy for not remembering someone's name.
News Flash Just In: Walter Crapkite has declared the War in Iraq unwinnable, and that the United States will not be able to prevent the North Vietnamese from unifying the nation.
LOL! Now you come clean the coffee I spilled!
Ditto, Cronkite was worth 5 divisions to the North Vietnamese. This was probably a senior moment.
"Minimum age in the constitution to be a U.S. Senator is 30."
And isn't 35 for president?
Substitute North Vietnam for Iraq and this is almost word for word what this idiot said after the Tet offensive, which we clearly the winners and which he claimed was a defeat for us.

Walter Cronkite endorses Campaign to Force Christianity out of U.S. Public Life
Obviously, ole Walter is no longer alive.
Time to check his diaper...
I saw a roundtable with Dan Rather on it the other night. They both must drink from the same toilet.
