Global Warming will make you healthy and sexy
American Thinker ^ | March 2, 2007 | James Lewis

In the spirit of the world campaign to save polar bears and buy carbon indulgences to assuage our collective guilt, it is vital to point out that published scientific studies also make a case for driving more, burning more coal, and breeding more flatulent cows. The reason: Global warming will make you happier, healthier and even sexier.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a recognized psychiatric disorder due to low levels of summer sunshine. SAD or the "winter blues" involves: depression fatigue hypersomnolence (over-sleeping) hyperphagia (overeating) carbohydrate craving weight gain and loss of libido (sexual desire) In other words, lack of sunshine can make you fat, miserable, sleepy and unsexy.

The predictable result is an increase in heart disease, suicide risk, poor sexual relationships, and general misery. Just a small rise in worldwide temperature could dramatically raise the world's level of happiness and even sexual desire. In a world of six billion people, tens of millions of sufferers might be rescued from SAD with only a small temperature rise.

Why do retirees move to Florida and Arizona? For the sunshine, of course. What will increase sunny days all over the planet? Global warming will!

Think I'll buy a Hummer and let it idle all day to work on my tan.

"So unless you can make the case that global warming will increase the UV output of the sun during the winter or that the total amount of solar insolation will increase during the winter, or increase the number of daylight hours in a winter day, the idea that SAD would be affected by global warming is just ... silly."

In Michigan, sunny days are invariably warmer than cloudy days while at night the opposite is usually true unless it is quite windy. We also have "lake effect" which keeps us warmer near the lake than those further away in the winter while the opposite is true in the summer.
Warmer winters usually are sunnier which would reduce SAD effects for certain people although I think it is just another way to make excuses for acting abnormally. People who go outside in the winter and get fresh air do not seem to be affected by this like those who stay inside.
I may not be a climate scientist, but I am a thinker.
Obviously I'm not near as smart as you (I'm just sayin').

I get your drift now. You bash people and think you are smart and then sit back and eat popcorn.
What a peachy guy you are.

I'm getting the drift now.
A teacher friend of mine says "those who can't, teach".
I guess being a retired teacher, you are probably feeling really inadequate, so you think you have to cut people down to make yourself feel important.
I think "Focus on the Family" could probably come up with a good shrink for you to see in your area to help you with your feelings of inadequacy.

Ah yes. A big signal that you have irrevocably lost an argument is when you resort to specious ad hominem statements. You picked a fight with a girl, lost, and then started crying about it.

So far on this thread you have incorrectly assumed that

1) I am a man
2) I am 'retired'
3) I am being an [expletive]
4) I left teaching because I "can't" [cut it in the real word or whatever]
5) I bash people/ cut people down to feel important, ie calling you dumb.
6) I need psychiatric help.

This is a classic example of psychological projection and reflects very poorly on you. But then again, it is in line with an "old fart". Your term. Not mine.

I am in fact a very young gen-x'er. Switching careers is very common, even expected. It is how you grow a broad base of experience. And unlike some segments of your generation, mine considers it a measure of success, not failure. I am currently using my physics+chemistry degree in industry and pursuing a masters in operations research. I studied physical geography, climatography, and philosophy of science for fun/electives back in the day. Your credential is what - that you're "a thinker" and that "hot comes from the sun". Impressive.

You pinged me to another thread that you think proves a point from this thread. This is a form of stalking and you will cease. Your 'point' is meaningless because I have already given you a topic on this thread to read up on that explains that phenomenon. Your challenge is to figure out which vocabulary word it is. I would start with google and then move to wikipedia. You're never too old to learn something new. Maybe you'll learn why Mercury is colder than Venus.

I must applaud you for far exceeding my expectations for embarrassing yourself. That said, I will not tolerate any further ad hominem attacks, personal attacks, or stalking.

What are you going to do? Some more ad hominem personal attacks on my intelligence? Or maybe get me fired from FreeRepublic so I can't contribute anymore?
You have made assumptions about me also and are way off on most of them.
That said, I have read most everything that has been on FR about "global warming" and therefore am probably as qualified as you to make statements about the subject.
So go ahead and report me. I can always give my money to another conservative cause.
What does being female have to do with the argument anyway?
I thought you were supposed to be equal.
If you didn't want this discussion, maybe you shouldn't have jumped in with your condescending tone when you don't know enough about me to know if I was being sarcastic or not.
Peace out.

You refer me to Wikipedia. A compendium of the thoughts of many people who may or may not have any knowledge of that which they write.
Here are two descriptions of Wiki from a thread here today.
#1. "Fortunately, most people understand that Wiki has little or no credibility". (Old Friend)
#2. "Wikipedia is a useless site as far as I am concerned. I think leftist loons are obsessed with it and spend most of their time away from DU or Indy Media editing history and terms to fit their warped world views.
NEVER rely on any info gleaned from Wikipedia to be true or accurate"
And this is where you want me to go for info? I guess you do think I'm an idiot. Thanks.

You snark at Wikipedia but base your knowledge on what you've read on FR?

There are some brilliant FReepers out there. Lil' happens to be one of them.

But FR is hardly an authoritative resource.

If you think I'm the only one here who questions the veracity of Wiki, read the above thread and the posts following it. No, I don't believe everthing that every FReeper writes, but many of the articles that are posted I believe are from reputable sources. I can ping you to it if you want but that may be "stalking".
Besides she's the one that started the slurs and name calling not me. That's why I thought she must be a guy. I didn't expect that from a woman. Guess I was raised wrong.

I think in order for the globe to warm, there has to be less clouds.

Less clouds=more heat=more evaporation=more clouds=less heat=less evaporation=less clouds and on and on...

It's a pretty stable climate out there except for: The SUN.
