“Civil disobedience has been used for much greater causes,” he said Wednesday."

What could be greater than private property rights and free market capitalism? Liberalism is a mental disorder.

"I am not sure why everyone was so lethargic.."

Because 90% of the citizenry, smoker and non-smoker alike, abhore freedom beg for the government to assume responsibility for their lives. My heart cries for what was once a great Republic.

"The only effective protest against the smoking bans must be initiated by the business owners, since their smoking customers aren't suffering any financial loss, which is quantifiable, and would seem to me to be a basis for legal action."

I would guess that their customers are experiencing a financial boon, imagine the savings by gathering in private homes at BYOB pricing. Of course, it just isn't the same......But financially, it is an advantage.

This is the break-in period, bub. Salinas had the same reaction for a while. Then the law gradually took hold, as people are law-abiding.

Property rights for everyone means nothing so long as you are happy.

Sickening.

I like the sign.

Besides carbon monoxide, CO, may be part of smoke.

Oh fork off!  I don't have to be a smoker to continue fighting for our rights.  We have a lot of non smokers fighting against this stupidity and we are working to help the private businesses gain back their lost revenue!

Business owners who have lost business because of the smoking ban “should look at ways to appeal to nonsmokers.”

Huh? I thought being non-smoking would appeal to nonsmokers. What else do they have in common?

Rep. Michael Merrifield, D-Colorado Springs, a supporter of the ban, called the protest “pretty much useless.”

“Civil disobedience has been used for much greater causes,” he said Wednesday. Business owners who have lost business because of the smoking ban “should look at ways to appeal to nonsmokers.”
So this POS just ADMITTED the bans hurt businesses.

_____

Dems just hate free markets.

All they had to do was ALLOW businesses who CHOOSE to make their places of business smoking or non-smoking.

They want everyone to fit into THEIR sensitive, anal world view. They want to protect the "air" and the "environment".

The places getting hurt the most are the regular Joe shot and beer joints, the local pubs, etc. Since they can't individually lecture all of these "brutes" and "hussies" who smoke, drink beer and play darts and pool they imperiously impose their lifestyle on them through laws, "for their own good".

This is the genesis and thinking behind these laws in a nutshell.
