No to HR 1022, "Assault Weapons Ban" Petition
The Petition Site ^ | N/A | Josh McNattin

Posted on 03/03/2007 1:19:40 PM PST by looscnnn

The attempt to renew and augment the expired federal "assault weapons ban", HR 1022, will not be tolerated.

This online petition is not legally binding and does not carry as much weight as a real paper petition with your genuine signature. I do plan on submitting this to a strategic representative, and I do believe it represents your voice significantly, but moreso my hope for this petition is to raise awareness of this bill, which is much more menacing to American's rights to defend themselves than the bill that was passed in 1994.

This is NOT the cosmetic bill from the Clinton era and does NOT include a sunset expiration, this one DOES ban many more guns, not just features, going so far as to ban WWII era rifles such as the M1 Garand and semi-automatic shotguns. Do your homework, learn about the details and contact your representative, act locally, raise awareness.

This petition and it's author is in no way affiliated with the ACLU. I am an honorably discharged Marine, gun owner and rifle range member. The host website is by charter a non-partisan site, though they do carry many left leaning petitions. If that makes you uncomfortable, start some right leaning ones and get people on board.

I've been informed that an embedded questionaire is asking for personal information such as "number of children in household". These are not questions that I opted to be included and should not be required to sign the petition.

Gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it tougher for sober people to own cars.

Not specifically but I would bet that it would fall under:

`(L) A semiautomatic rifle or shotgun originally designed for military or law enforcement use, or a firearm based on the design of such a firearm, that is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, as determined by the Attorney General. In making the determination, there shall be a rebuttable presumption that a firearm procured for use by the United States military or any Federal law enforcement agency is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, and a firearm shall not be determined to be particularly suitable for sporting purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use in a sporting event.'.

Which means that it, all SKSs (not just the removable mag version listed), Tokarevs and oh so many more will be banned.
