Christian/Pro-Life fights for his life in Cuba

HAVANA, CUBA (BosNewsLife)-- One of Cuba’s most prominent Christian prisoners, Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet, has said he has been forced to watch abuses "that threaten the decorous behavior of a civilized society" but stressed he trusts God to one day end his "unjust sentence," in a letter published by BosNewsLife Saturday, March 3.

Dr. Biscet, a Christian pro-life activist and medical doctor who opposes abortion and the death penalty as well as the Communist regime, was sentenced to 25 years on April 7, 2003, in a massive crackdown on human rights activists across the island.

He earlier received a three-year jail term on charges of "disrespecting patriotic symbols" including hanging a Cuban flag upside down during a news conference.

(...)

"The prison cell where he is forced to live is unfit for long term confinements, " she said. "No human being [can] escape illness. [The prison] is full of humidity, whitewashed walls [and] lacking a mattress. [There is also] no light nor ventilation or a chair to sit on."

In addition she noticed during rare family visits "excessive noise, little privacy, restricted family contact, a hostile environment, as well as other factors that place at high risk his health and life."

Morejon Hernandez, said the apparent poor prison conditions have impacted the health of her husband. He suffers of a "total deterioration of his dental health, recurring infections treated with antibiotics and painkillers, and symptoms of high blood pressure, a condition [he] endured for many years that is treated with…tablets," she said, adding that his family provides him with all medication.

I want to bring to your attention the plight of Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet, an activist who is fighting the good fight in Cuba.

He is a Cuban dissident who, in 2003, was sentenced to 25 years in jail in Cuba for, among other things, insulting the fatherland and unpatriotic acts.

Biscet is a major figure in the fight against Castro in Cuba. He is well-known, but the MSM in the Western world seems to have completely ignored this story.

In jail, he is suffering from recurring infections, high blood pressure, poor dental health (he's lost molars) and is slowly losing his eyesight. He is dependent on his family's providing medicine to stay healthy and alive.

I think this seems to me to be a worthwhile story to follow. He is fighting the good fight, fighting for the things many of us fight for, but he has gone to jail for it.

Agreed. Thanks for bringing us this story. Hope that the current regime in Cuba is soon history.

This is the true face of Communist barbarism. Yet our so-called human rights activists are uninterested in help to secure Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet's freedom. To them Cuba is a model country that offers free education and health care to all. Who cares if one man is imprisoned for opposing all the wonderful advantages of Cuban Communism? But they do just that because they can't stand the thought they might be wrong and Dr. Biscet might be right about the true state of affairs in Cuba.

More information on his pro-life work in Cuba (Google cache):

Spotlight on Cuba By Rai Rojas (2001)

"In the early 1990s the drug Rivanol was being used to provide young Cuban women with chemically induced abortions. Dr. Biscet began researching and compiling evidence as to how this strong abortifacient was being used to destroy children. He also documented many accounts of children being killed after surviving this type of abortion.

He discovered that Rivanol is made in Germany. It is an acridine derivative and it appears to be an antimicrobial dye. It is classified as an antiseptic. But just as sodium chloride is classified as an electrolyte replacement, it can also be used as an abortifacient. The generic name for Rivanol is ethacidrine lactate. Trade names include Emcredil, Acrinol, and Rival. This substance is not available in the United States.Used for abortion in the first and second trimesters, Rivanol is injected into the amniotic sac. Studies showed that it produced an abortion in 98.8% of cases within 48 hours. The countries where these studies were conducted were India and Vietnam.

Subsequent to Dr. Biscet's research he wrote a paper titled " Rivanol: A Method to Destroy Life." It was made public in April 1998. On June 9 of that same year Dr. Biscet denounced the Cuban National Health System as being a party to genocide.Shortly thereafter Dr. Biscet was officially expelled from the Cuban National Health System and has since been unable to perform as a physician in his own country. In February 1999 Dr. Biscet staged a peaceful pro-life protest in front of an abortion facility notorious for providing Rivanol abortions. He and another pro-life doctor were savagely beaten by a mob." - Excerpts. He was arrested November 3 1999 and was imprisoned. He was then released on October 31, 2002. He was rearrested on December 2002. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison on April 2003.

An American "human rights" activist who seeks the release of a cop killer or a terrorist is treated like a prophet. Moreover, the cop killer or terrorist himself is celebrated. If there is a false story about a Koran that was allegedly mishandled in Guantanimo, the MSM will be there 24/7 for weeks. They won't even ask whether or not the accusation is true. The MSM looks at Guantanimo with a microscope and if anything happens they are on it instantly.

They have had nearly 50 years to inquire about the prisons that Fidel Castro runs but no one asks tough questions about that. It is not that the leftist "journalists" are indifferent about Cuba. They have time to visit Fidel in his mansions. They have time to go on hunting trips with Fidel. They write fawning stories about Fidel's knowledge of baseball. These journalists are too busy reporting on the "real" Cuba as represented by Castro to bother with something beneath them such as some human rights activist in prison. These journalists could not even imagine how anyone could be critical about "paradise." Thus, a dissident does not even exist to them.
