In Support of Ann Coulter
Monday, March 5, 2007 | Kristinn

Posted on 03/05/2007 12:51:58 AM PST by kristinn

It is with growing dismay and frustration that I am watching so many of my friends and acquaintances in the conservative community attack Ann Coulter for her comments pointing out that saying the word 'faggot' can get you sent to a rehabilitation clinic.

That she said it in the context of primping pretty boy Democrat presidential candidate John Edwards has sent conservatives to the fainting couch in an episode of 'why I never!' mass hysteria.

Ann Coulter has walked point for conservatives for almost a decade. She has been assaulted, threatened and stalked. She requires bodyguards for protection. Liberals believe they are justified in physically attacking Ann. I heard one say so at CPAC--not in response to her rehab joke, but because Ann 'insults people.'

Ann has been an early and loyal friend of Free Republic. She is one of the few prominent conservatives who regularly breaks bread with FReepers. Her friendship is now being repayed by FReepers who want her driven out of conservatism.

That so many conservatives want Ann banned from CPAC is a sad indicator of the state of conservatism. It is not Ann Coulter's fault that Republicans lost both houses of Congress. It is not Ann Coulter's fault that President Bush is not popular. Sacrificing Ann Coulter on the altar of political correctness will not win the elections of 2008 nor will it prevent conservatives from being sent to rehab for uttering politically incorrect words and ideas.

After Ann uttered the words that have given so many conservatives the vapors, the line for her booksigning at CPAC was just as long as usual. I know, I was standing in that line. If CPAC attendees were so outraged about Ann's remarks, it was not manifested there. I didn't learn about the controversy until I read about it online later that night.

I spent the next day at CPAC. Ann's remarks were not a hot topic. I know because the only time I heard it talked about was when I brought it up. Those I spoke with about it were not upset.

I do not wish to speak ill of my friends and acquaintances who are dumping on Ann, other than to express my disappointment. I do wish they'd reconsider and stop attacking a friend who has walked point for them. Liberals must be laughing themselves silly as they watch us take out someone they've been wanting to eliminate for years.

Rehab for Ann Coulter

Rocker had some pretty serious man-boobs. And besides, it's not the size ...

It was a flip witticism. Rocker was ovrpumped and Coulter is underfed. Seriously, someone needs to buy the lady a cheeseburger. If you fight that, you're kidding me and, more importantly, yourself.

What you elided is that I also gave Coulter credit for a better curve ball than Rocker. In fairness, it could hardly have been worse. In his prime, Rocker had some serious heat, but his breaking stuff was craptacular.

None taken, but watch that "Greatest Generation" talk! I'm a (gasp!) Boomer! LOL!

I'm enjoying this thread...good discussion. We're all part of the same team, and we're just having a small disagreement over tactics. I can understand why Kristinn started this thread. He's been so close to the action for years, he felt it necessary to support Ann, and I applaud that.

Those are some great photos you posted on your homepage, keep up the good work.

Thank You.

I too have been to Dachau and knew people with numbers tattooed to their bodies.

Not only is comparing a Bush or a Clinton to Hitler intellectual laziness but it is also an insult to political discourse of both left and right.

Ditto.

She made her comment about John Edwards at the wrong place and the timing was as bad as it gets.

I'm sure everyone wanting to back Ann Coulter regardless of what she said also want to ignore her calling for the impeachment of President Bush (three times) on the Mike Rosen show here in Denver. Mike also gave her multiple opportunities to take back her words that the US military should hunt down and kill john murtha, a member of Congress. She said no, that she was glad the word was getting out and stood proudly by those comments.

Like 'Kristinn', Michelle Malkin was there at CPAC and I agree 100% with what she wrote about what happened.

http://michellemalkin.com/archives/006981.htm

Excerpt from Michelle -

I think all the fellow conservatives I met at CPAC will agree that keeping a Democrat out of the White House in 2008 is a goal we will unite behind.

It seems to me that those Democrats would like nothing better than for another Coulter Moment at the pivotal CPAC event in 2008. "Raghead" in 2006. "Faggot" in 2007. What diarrhea of the mouth at the premiere conservative gathering can we all look forward to in a crucial election year with so much at stake in a critical period of American history?

CPAC organizers and co-sponsors ought to think very carefully about the message they want to send next year--and the pivotal role they want to play in the 2008 campaign.

---

There isn't the slightess doubt in my mind that if Ronald Reagan heard that comment he would condemn it in a heartbeat. Coulter's comment is 180 degrees in the opposite direction of being anywhere near Reaganesque.

(Yep Kristinn, it's me Tony, the person who talked to you about getting out the word for the caravan and huge pro-troop rally a week from this Saturday in DC)

Well put. There is nothing more pathetic than watching conservative leaders apologize time and time again saying for something that is true.

With all due respect to Michelle Malkin, the primaries have not even begun. Its a little early to focus on who to keep out - its the right time to figure out who can best represent conservative interests and then get behind them.

I think Ann Coulter's comment on Edwards was tasteless and inappropriate.

I agree. I also think faggots are inappropriate as well.

Don't you ever stop?

How are you going to break the world mile record (at 45) if you keep these kind of hours?

How are you going to make the Olymic Team (at 47) if you keep this up?

(I'm not kidding folks. These are just some of this poster's preposterous claims. Check out his posting history and his 24/7 jihad against Coulter.)

Put me down as a backer. This whole affair reminds me of what Oscar Wilde said about the Old Curiosity Shop.

"One must have a heart of stone to read the death of little Nell without laughing."

Besides, when I was a boy "faggot" didn't necessarily mean a homosexual, it referred to the effeminine, soft, vain sort of man, epitomized by John Edwards. I always found Bill Clinton to be somewhat in this vein. (npi).

I love Coulter.

Edwards may not be gay and who cares, really.

But anybody that invests this much time on his appearance...well, I don't know. This is just crazy.

There's no defense. Ann made a dumb comment and used an epithet that isn't suitable for polite folk.

The war raging in America isn't being fought by "polite folk against polite folk." It is being fought by truth tellers like Ann against liars like Kerry and Edwards. If the term faggot is too harsh for you, then your place in this war against conservative values is not on the front lines, where fire is fought with fire.

The first casualty of war is truth. The truth is that the word faggot is revolting, but revolting is what homosexuality is. Killing the word faggot, makes homosexuality more palatable for the masses.

What is also true is by trying to couch gross immoral acts in kinder language, people become more accepting of the behavior. This is amplified by the silence/hypocrisy in the media/left when people like Mahr wish Cheney was blown up.

Even in the most charitable reading, it was rude, it was nasty, and we should aspire to better.

You seem to think this war is being fought in a debate hall with Ivy league rules. The war for values is nasty, and what is better to aspire for then victory? Victory is obtained through truth and frank talk. Ann is a champion of that. Ann is an awesome weapon, tearing open the curtain and exposing the left's hypocracy. They can't take their own medicine, and she is huge pain in their side.

Ann GOP, your clock is ticking. If you can't take even the small fight with political correctness over the word "faggot" to the enemy. If the GOP doesn't start standing for something, and be willing to take the response of the left, then they will fall.

Sincerely

The RINO'S are suffering for watching too much fu%^&ng liberal television. It is liberal television and political correctness that has controlled their behavior to make them outraged like this. Their victims of brainwashing. Solution....Keep your nose out of the television. It works for me.

Yes, we conservatives can prove that we are 'culturally sensitive'. We can get Tiny as a featured singer at the next Republican Convention doing the latest Republican theme song.
"Laaaaaaalaaaaa O' tiptoe thru the tulips....."

Hear hear! The last thing Free Republic needs is a bunch of faint-hearted prisses, who act as useful tools of the disloyal opposition. Shame on all of those who have the poor taste and disloyalty to criticize Ann Coulter.

By calling H. Clinton "Hitlery" you are trivializing the horrors of the Holocaust and demeaning all were killed or banished to the concentration camps.

There are some among us who believe, in all seriousness, that given enough power, HRC and many others on the left would gladly recreate the more deadly aspects of the Holocaust, and would begin as Hitler did, with political opponents and the excessively religious before moving on to ethnic "undesirables", including (again) (Never Again!) Jews.

Hitler did not become Hitler the day Auschwitz came "on line".
