There has been a lot of attention paid on the web and on talk radio to this audio clip of Hillary Clinton affecting a Southern accent addressing a rally in Selma, AL yesterday. Not the same rally Barack Obama spoke at, though. A seperate but equal rally, of course.
It appears that Hillary has a problem with getting carried away when addressing an audience. The woman who claims she was "always a Yankee fan" despite growing up in suburban Chicago, is going to have quite a problem, if she campaigns for the next 18 months. Who knows what other accents she will affect? Will her harridan-voice become a familiar tone when audiences wildly applaud and she tries to talk over them?
It is looking to me as though she has a real problem with authenticity.
Anyone have that sound bite?

My wife has never been as big a Clinton hater as I am and has always indicated that she might vote for Clinton because of her gender. Last night, I played Clinton's speech for her. The reaction was priceless.
The first time she heard it, she started laughing because she thought it was a joke.
When I explained the context of the speech she asked me to play it again. This time she was literally speechless. I played it a third time and she became downright angry and asked how stupid does Clinton think we are.
Only March of 2007, and she is already losing the woman vote.
Worse than her singing the National Anthem.

I agree. If she came to my church and spoke to me like this, I would boo her and walk out. I have never understood why some of our people worship this condescending racist.
'Rats will want to put this behind them as quickly as possible because it'll hurt her with black voters and just make the woman look ignorant and stupid and ridiculous... Which is why conservative talk show hosts should play the tape at the beginning of their shows, everyday, from now until the election. Don't let her put it behind her!

I was embarrassed for them.
But........ The hildebeast lived in Arkansas for many years. (I am a native Texan) The southern accent is something that can come and go depending on the group you are with. When I go home, small town Texas, with my relatives the accent gets thick. When I summer in Vermont, I lose the accent unless they make a big deal of it and then it gets thicker.
In my opinion it is natural to slip into an honestly acquired southern accent in the midst of others who speak that way.
Now, I never thought I'd defend hillary. But, really this is common. Sorry.
