Behaving Badly: Ethical Lessons from Enron puts the reader in the shoes of Enron executives through the journey of the once prominent and now infamous company. Enron began as a newly merged firm in 1985 with too much debt, rose on Wall Street during the 1990s, and collapsed in December 2001. This is the first book to treat Enron's financial problems as complex ethical issues managers may face daily - often without recognizing them as such. Key decisions are presented in real-time from several perspectives, including those of Lay, Skilling, Fastow, board members, auditors, lawyers, and investment bankers. The seemingly simple question readers are asked to consider is: What would you have done, had you been employed by, or doing business with, Enron? Readers can debate their answers with colleagues. Award winning business ethics professor Denis Collins also provides advice on creating and sustaining an ethical culture in any company, offering a decision-making tool and framework that managers can use to intentionally steer their company away from the road Enron traveled. Readers may share answers to decision points at: http://business.edgewood.edu/behavingbadly
Want some insights into the Scooter Libby trial? Learn about one of the jurors and the book he had published last May. Gives you some insight into what this crazy DC jury was behaving like and thinking about. I'm sure this guy was holding court all day long and leading this jury down the primrose path to "history." Absolutely awful. Really raises questions about the American Justice System as practiced in Washington, DC before Washington, DC juries. JMHO.
Good find!
And I can't stop thinking about what Libby was convicted of, vs. what Sandy Burglar got away with. It is literally sickening.
Dennis Collins ... Bush lied people died ... moron of the first order. No wonder Libby was convicted of nothing.
This in itself should be enough to appeal for a new trial and win.
As opposed to the American justice system in California, before California juries? Or in New York, before New York juries? Or in the places where a woman gets 40 years for a porn pop up in class?
The problem isn't Washington DC justice. The problem is that the American justice system itself is a capricious casino and an utter disgrace. We need wholesale, sweeping reform of our whole system of justice. It is the worst in the civilized world by a bad margin.
Comparisons abound. The two border guards doing time, while the guy they were trying to stop is still selling drugs; the Marines who are being prosecuted for killing civilians in a WAR...it seems as though the world's gone completely mad.
It is sickening... Do you wonder how this guy was allowed on this jury by the Defense? Do you think this guy was thinking about his publishing career? His Enron book is ranked 450,855 or something like that after being on the market for about a year... Do you think Denis Collins was thinking about what this jury duty might mean to his book sales -- and the inevitable book that Dog Ear Publishing will be bringing to market? This really is sickening.
Our country has been ruined am I am tired of listening to it. Disgusting, totally disgusting...oooh it just smells.
Is this the same guy that was on the jury? I don't think so--this guy is a professor in WI. I could find nothing in his bio re: being a reporter at the WaPost.
Did you see this?
Excellent find RTH! Thank you for the ping. Wow.
Denis Collins should be thrilled... when I started this thread, his book was number 451,000 on Amazon's rankings... it has now moved up (in mere minutes) to 437,800, and I'm sure it will be rising hourly. Hey Drive By News Media: why don't you track this little phenomenon... Maybe there were a few hidden (or not so hidden) agendas among these jurors...
Yes, but I am not sure it's the same guy; the one on TV said he name was spelled with only one N, Denis.
Oh it is the same!
I'm pretty sure it is... Rush gave the guy's name and I think he mentioned the book that he had written "Behaving Badly". I'll try to confirm.
The Bible says something about "they will call good, evil and evil, good." Sounds like it's coming true.
Carolyn
I'm watching the interview with Denis Collins (same spelling) on FoxNews.com. There's a 5 minute interview here. This guy is acting as the spokesman for the jury. He's describing their post-it-note jury deliberations.
This guy is thrilled with this opportunity -- and the book sales that will follow. This has to be the same guy.
Google-Denis Collins--the second return you will see a book about spying by a WaPost reporter--this is the jury member.
