Laff Riot: New Owner Suggests Air America Was Too Fair
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 03/08/2007 7:41:01 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

Who says liberals lack a sense of humor? The new owner of Air America suggests that the original Air America went bankrupt because . . . it was too even-handed.

Mark Green is a veteran New York pol, having served as NYC's Public Advocate and run unsuccessfuly for US senator, NYC mayor and state attorney general. His family business recently completed the acquisition of Air America out of bankruptcy. Details here.

In an email distributed today [yup, I subscribe to their list], Green described what "Air America 2.0" will be like:

"It'll be a business with a sharp point of view. The era of on-the-one-hand-on-the-other-hand liberalism is over -- or as Robert Frost once wrote, 'a liberal man is too broad-minded to take his own side in a quarrel.'"
No doubt, that was the problem with the old Air America. Too fair. You remember. The network that, in addition to Al Franken's daily slew of Bush hatred brought you Randi Rhodes playing audio of gunshots suggesting the assassination of President Bush, and exclaiming "here's your answer . . . you little bastard."

In the words of Robert Frost, "broad-minded" indeed. Thank goodness Mark Green is here to yank Air America out of its excess of even-handedness.

Mark Green! Isn't he the guy who's run for every office in New York and lost EVERY time he ran? I thought he retired his mouth.

How does a guy like this successfully cross streets without getting hit in a city like New York?

Yup. As I noted in the article, he ran unsuccessfully for NYC mayor, US senator and state Attorney General.

'a liberal man is too broad-minded to take his own side in a quarrel.'

I prefer:
'A liberal is someone who is so open minded, their brains fell out'

Yeah, that's the ticket. Loads of advertisers will flock to this media.

I tried listening to this to see what it was about. I couldn't listen very long, certainly not long enough to come up with the same opinion as Mark Green's. My own opinion of it, ideology and politics aside, is that it is lousy, dreadful, horrible radio. If Air America were conservative but still had the same lack of talent and brains, it would have failed then, too.

Whatever happened to the radio network Jane Fonda announced last year she was putting together?

Mark Green probably thought that Pravda was "too fair".

He won "public advocate".

Don't ask.

Anyway, true story about Mark Green---my aunt ended up across the aisle from him once on a plane. She said he had holes in his socks. She also said she heard him tell the people he was traveling with that they had to separate from him once they left the plane, because "it wouldn't look good for him to be seen with an entourage".
