Clinton team fails to push out Obama

Associated Press

Thursday, March 08, 2007 COLUMBIA - A planned speech by presidential contender Barack Obama to South Carolina's black legislators has survived a bid by key supporters of Hillary Clinton to have the New York senator take his place.

Associated Press Presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., addresses a news conference in Washington. Mr. Obama will speak at the South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus' gala April 13. Click photo for optionsMr. Obama had accepted the South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus' invitation to speak at its April 13 gala. But state Sens. Robert Ford and Darrell Jackson - who have endorsed Mrs. Clinton - tried to sway their caucus to their candidate. The men relented Tuesday night, and the caucus unanimously approved Mr. Obama's appearance.

The annual caucus fundraiser traditionally features a black speaker and will provide a high-profile platform this year in a state that is holding the first Southern primaries.

Black voters accounted for 49 percent of vote in the 2004 Democratic primary here.

"Sen. Obama is very excited to attend this event and is very much looking forward to it," said Dan Pfeiffer, a spokesman for Mr. Obama.

State Rep. Gilda Cobb-Hunter, a caucus member, said Wednesday that she was "flabbergasted" about the split on the speaker. The Orangeburg Democrat, who hasn't aligned with any presidential candidate, said the Illinois senator was the right choice to begin with.

"The committee's interest was in having Sen. Obama as affirmation for young people of color that the sky's the limit," Ms. Cobb-Hunter said.

"A number of us were interested in having him come to motivate people and get them involved in this process."

Mrs. Clinton will speak to the caucus at some other time.

"South Carolina's women legislators stuck to their plans to keep Johnny Edwards as their speaker, in keeping with their tradition of having a woman speaker address the group." did not appear in that story (but should have!)

Hillary shouldn't have tried to sweep him out of her way while she was riding-on her broom...

Dumb. Why not just have their candidate speak at another time? If B. Hussein Obama can be an inspiration to blacks, maybe the other candidate can be an inspiration - cough - to women. After all, anyone can be an example, even if a bad one.

I guess she'll just have to one of her old Arkansas friends go at Barak with a heavy iron bar or something.

True. Also, with half the voters in SC being black, and probably going something like 90% for Obama, HC is probably throwing ash trays as I speak.

This is poetic justice for the carpet bagging bitch from Illinois..

If Hillary had run for office in her HOME state of Illinois, perhaps she could have prevented Obama from ever rising to Senator..

Serves the bitch right.

Hillary's claim to fame is that she enabled Bill, th worst president in recent memory. Beyond that, nothing.

Will Obama try to imitate Hillary's wonderful Black Southern accent?

I saw that this morning. How good is that? I think Peter Paul is going to link it on his blog. He loved it.

Hillary is a screw-up. She doesn't have the political or managerial talents for a well-run Presidential campaign. For the primary, her assets are the hit-squads, the FBI files, her husband's connections (lots of whom are slipping away), some women who see her as a cause celebre, and money. Let's hope she screws up the primary so bad we won't have to listen to her screechy voice for a while.

She will have unlimited money for ads. Even if her campaign is not run well, TV ads fool stupid people. That is her base.

Dear Senator Obama,

Please avoid airplanes and Ft Marcy Park. Hillary will not suffer this bitch slap lying down.

Sincerely,

I hope Obama leaves enough money in his campaign fund for a special "security detail" to protect him when Mrs. Bill Clinton decides to take stronger measures to insure her coronation to the US Throne which she is SURE she's entitled too (the essence of true liberalism is the height of their entitlement!)
