Rita Cosby is leaving MSNBC at the end of the month. Her contract was due to expire April 1 and was not going to be renewed, according to sources familiar with the matter.
MSNBC cancelled Cosby's 10 p.m. show, Rita Cosby Live and Direct, in June. The network dumped Tucker Carlson's 11 p.m. show then too to make way for documentary programming.
At the time, Cosby was named head of a new specials unit, but she has been featured sparingly since.
The former Fox News personality gained notoriety for her celebrity pieces, most recently a story on Anna Nicole Smith's private funeral in the Bahamas.
"NBC replaced live programming with taped shows during some primetime slots, including mine," Cosby said in a statement. "I then began discussions with the network about my future interests and expressed my desire to move on.
"I am committed to devoting my attention full-time to my work and obligations at the network. I intend to continue doing so until I leave at the end of the month. I wish all of my MSNBC and NBC colleagues the best for the future. As of April 1st, I will begin to explore the new opportunities."
I agree. She has the makings of a good reporter ... if she'd just stay away from the tabloid stuff.

He returned and gave a presentation on OFX about how important it was that the U.S. succeed there, and how he was backing Bush 100% on this issue.

Kirin quit? I was wondering what happened to her. She was great. The new blond on the weekends, Courtney, is terrible. She "freezes" before the camera and stumbles around.

Rita always sounds like she is gasping for air and it makes me uncomfortable. I wonder if her voice had anything to do with getting canned?
I can't stand to watch her but she did sound slightly better the other day.
I grew up with Rita. I knew her well. I have not seen her in 20 years. But then as now she is just a self centered person. All she cares is about her and her spotlight. And as far as between the ears. A zero, nothing!
But she just has the sweetest, sexiest voice. We'll miss her.

I met her at an event in 2001. Back then she was thin and her voice was normal. But by the time she left Fox News she had gained weight and her voice had gotten raspy, but like everybody else who watches TV, I didn't really think about it.
Then in early 2005 I got diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had my thyroid removed. Looking back at photos friends had taken of me at the W2 Inaugural Ball, I can see how thick my neck was, but I didn't notice it myself at the time. Anyway, after my surgery, I was watching TV and saw Rita Cosby, and I noticed her neck looked "thick," alot like mine had pre-surgery. Not wanting her to walk around for years with a possible cancer growing in her neck, like I did, I sent an email to her. I never got a response, but I hoped that she would go see a doc to find out if she had a problem with her thyroid - it could have been a goiter, or worse. Maybe it was her thyroid that caused the voice and weight change. If so, I hope it was easily corrected and didn't require surgery, etc. Good luck to her wherever she goes.
Rita's problem with FOX was that when her father died in December, before the Iraq War, she took a month off, that turned into four or five months, maybe six. Laurie Dhue had to fill in for her. So, FOX just never gave her back the shows that she had before her "vacation".
Well that kind of describes 95% of the people in show business doesn't it.
