The Army does accept folks with a GED and is now taking a larger percentage of them; the average score on the ASVAB for junio Army personnel is down. As usual, Rooney chose a poor avenue to deliver some uncomfortable facts. My father was a tenth grade dropout and served as an infantryman in the Korean war, spending several days on a hill surrounded by Chinese. He went on to become a successful construction business operator and he's worth several millions of dollars. Lack of a diploma than and lack of one now are two very different things.
Not at all. They were skinny, under-educated poor kids, who once they were well-fed and properly trained became a force that liberated millions.
