GOP leaders: Don't 'Bob Dole' us again

[The] "Hustle" may have been a line dance we did back in the days of disco, but today it's what GOP leadership and a complicit media are trying to do to the voters responsible for the Republican Party's successes since Ronald Reagan.

Realistic chances of winning notwithstanding, there are no fewer than 13 Republicans in the contest for the 2008 presidential sweepstakes. But to hear party leadership and the media spin promote the candidates, one easily gets the impression that John McCain, Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney are not just the only candidates, but that McCain and Romney are the opening act for Giuliani as he awaits his coronation.

This is a ruse, a con, and in brief, an attempt to hustle the voters. GOP leadership is trying to "Bob Dole" us. They have, in effect, met in the smoke-filled back room of a private club and decided amongst themselves who they want in 2008. Their problem is how to deceive the voters into believing that said pick is of the voters' choosing.

There is not to much difference between Hitlary adn Rion Rudy. To be blunt if either win it will be about the same.

You are right, RIno Rudy is not Dole. At least Dole had some conservative qualities, unlike this flaming worthless liberal.

I fear the author is right, they are trying to shove a rino down our throats. I for one will not take a bite.

If Rudy wins the nomination, I think the Dole analogy will be quite accurate.

I believe your analysis is dead on, frankly the GOP leadership is gift wrapping the presidency for the "Hildabeast".

” That's not only how the GOP "Bob Dole"'d us, it's also how they "George W. Bush"'d us in 2000. Remember? He was practically coronated before he ever got to New Hampshire. “

The George Bush’s coronation was evident from the beginning (year 2000). I am glad you noticed that too.

I am still angry about the underhanded play that was forced on us. George Bush certainly promised those kingmakers a lot in return for putting him in the White House. Just look at the mess we are in.

The rest of your post is all true. Thank you. I hadn’t realized that others had seen through this running façade.

Amen. The last thing we need is yet another Brady Bill Bob Dole clone.

"Bob Dole was old, tired, wussie, had no fight and intensity in him. Exactly the opposite of Rudy."

Actually Bob Dole almost won.

I may get flamed for saying this but,...I believe that it's all a sham. I believe that Hillary is the chosen one and the media is giving us GOP candidates that they know, in good conscience, that we cannot vote for.

Thus, we get Queen Hillary by default. ...I am afraid that this is the plan.

"No one is shoving anyone down anyones throats. These candidates are out organizing and getting votes."

That's a lot of hooey! The reason Thompson is being considering is because the base is rejecting Rudy. The Rudybots don't get it. Rudy does not share our values, period and we are not going to be lulled into accepting him.

I have lost all respect for Fox News, it's McCain, Romney, Rudy 24/7 and ZERO discussion of the issues. I follow politics rather closely and bedrock issues are hopscotched around in favor of idle bs chit-chat just for face time on the tube.

In marketing its called brand recognition. The next president is being marketed to us as if we are to F'ing stupid to realize it.

Shame on the GOP!

Hey, GOP. You got bounced out of office in 06 because you ignored the base with regards to immigration and limited government. You want to make that two elections in a row?

Stop with the Rhino crap already!

You doh't have to take a bite. There's always Hillary. She's terrific and will advance your conservative ideas. Really.

You Rudy folks see things in a blind way. You act as though Rudy is already up against Hillary.

We haven't even gotten to the primaries. We are all discussing candidates. This assumption that if you don't go for Rudy you are voting for Hillary is getting worn out.

At this point, I see it differently.

The people who insist on Rudy, knowing full well that many are opposed to him, will be the ones responsible for a Hillary win.

It can be looked at in more than one way and be a valid point.

Actually Bob Dole almost won.

Almost won with 159 electoral votes and 40.7% of the popular votes?

The press is going to sugar coat everything about Rudy until after he gets the nomination and then the bloodbath will start. I feel like screamming from the rooftops, he is way to over the top to play well in the south and middle america. There is just tooo much there. The 9/11 leadership will only go so far. Once his views on other issues are really put out there and he is left to explain himself he will fall flat. And the fact that he made NYC a wonderland again is not going to resonate with alot of people. Believe it or not, most Americans have never been there and could care less about the place.

************

Bizarrely, there are those who think he is the only one who can beat Hillary. He may be the only one who can't.

Total BS.

The conservatives failed to get a cohesive message out. Santorum, Allen, and others were "real conservatives" and failed to get a widely appealing message out.
