Happy news from another front. The message from the Gathering of Eagles got to those who needed to hear it most. I found this at Power Line:

Who I was never talking to to begin with anywhere in this thread but who still felt the need to jump in with a public post about another post of mine. It was HER public post I was responding to when I also referenced the Freepmail from other people. If my wording was awkward, I am sorry. Miss Marple did NOT Freepmail me.

Folks, please, I am begging you, leave me alone. I am going away, not mad, just going away.

You are currently "in the trenches" politically with your Republican Party activities and your posts about your encounters make excellent reading --- and they are helpful in examining our own participation in the Party locally.

That you are passionate about your positions is obvious and I don't think anyone here is challenging you on that. Others here are as firm in their convictions, but because of temperament or professional habits of a lifetime, try to control emotional reactions to events and to avoid personal judgments of other posters whose views may differ from theirs.

One of the pleasures of the Sunday Morning Talk Show threads, in addition to the extraordinary research done here, is the genuine respect posters accord each other and the general absence of rancour and personal abuse which may arise on other threads.

I want to read to you a letter, ladies and gentlemen, written by Chuck Schumer, Senator from New York, on January 22nd, 2004. The letter was to the honorable James Comey, United States Department of Justice. He was the deputy attorney general at the time under Ashcroft.

“Dear Deputy Attorney General Comey: I write to request an update on the investigation into allegations that senior administration officials committed a federal felony by leaking the identity of a covert CIA operative. The investigation has been underway for four months now and we have received no meaningful reports regarding the progress you are making. I realize there are limitations on information that can be disclosed regarding an ongoing criminal investigation, but, as we have discussed, a prosecutor has the responsibility to assure public confidence in criminal investigations, especially those of such a serious nature. In the wake of recent calls by former intelligence operatives for a Congressional investigation, I write to ask that you publicly answer several questions regarding the progress you are making: Has a grand jury been empaneled [sic] in this case? Have members of the White House staff signed waivers, permitting journalists to discuss confidential communications? If so, what percent of the White House staff has signed such waivers? Has anyone who has been asked to sign such a waiver refused to do so? Have journalists been interviewed as part of the investigation? Has any journalist who has been released from confidentiality (assuming any has), refused to answer questions regarding previously confidential communications? Were White House staffers ordered as a condition of employment to submit to interviews? Has anyone asked for or been offered immunity? If so, how many individuals fit in each category—“

Here is Schumer interfering with Comey, wondering where the hell the investigation is on this Plame leak -- and it's Chuck Schumer who's out there making the same charges against the existing eight US attorneys! He's claiming that they were interfered with; that there were people making political demands, people making pressure and power demands on them. Chuck Schumer conveniently forgets his own harassment of the justice department, demanding practically every detail of their investigation leading up to the appointment of an independent counsel! “What other information can you provide us regarding the progress you are making with this investigation? I look forward to hearing from you soon. Sincerely, Charles Schumer, United States Senator.” This is worse than hypocrisy. Schumer's out there criticizing Republicans for making inquiries of US attorneys about ongoing investigations. He is saying that it is unconscionable this would happen: You can't do that! That's pressuring law enforcement! Chuck Schumer was pressuring James Comey!

I'll ask (once again) everyone on the thread to please attack the dems and DBM, not each other. If you disagree with another FReeper, why not detail why you disagree, rather than get into motives, personalities, and other such nonsense.

I heard Rush say the "What a Babe" comment, and yes, I thought a little bit of the "horndog" came over Rush. Hell, all us men think that way from time to time. In any case, Rush isn't perfect. I'd laugh if I thought I'd EVER encounter any one person who agreed with Rush on every single issue and statement he makes. Allow Fishtalk to be like all the rest of us please. If you disagree with her, say why, not that she's a NOW member or something detractive. Yesterday I saw some minor piling on over her comments.

Changing gears a little, Fish brought up her depression and disapointment in the current Republican party. We all share that from time to time. No one of us are going to agree that things are absolutely fine, but to what degree are they hosed up? We all want to discuss it. Why not do so in a mature manner?

I still contend it's the DBM. I think they give the Dems a 10-15 percent advantage to any election and we still haven't come up with an effective way to counter them, except to bring at least 20% more to the polls. We CANNOT do so if we're fighting among ourselves.

People will continue to post... I have to tell you I'm surprised at the thin skin of some around here. I blame the tendency to think everyone is a conservative of the same degree and take it personal when someone "on their team" doesn't get their point.


We have conservatives around here who's primary conservatism is anti-abortion, or family values... others care about that but prioritize national security over them. Still others will do anything to keep dems out of office.

Sometimes people of different flavors lack that perspective, mostly because of habit that they are so used to relentless attacks from the libs and MSM.

Anyway... its all good. I didn't post from November to Feb... My boy Rummy getting the boot was it for me. But I came back... they all come back ;)

On a different note... RUSH just started and his first comment was on the GoE counter protesters. I'd like to hear more on that.

Miss Marple, my comments weren't directed at you nor anyone else. I'm just trying to keep the peace and no one is being singled out.

I don't get really shook up when posters go at it but I am extremely upset when I hear someone feels they're not welcome and will no longer post on the thread.

Please do understand that I am not Jim Robinson so I have no authority (nor would I want it) over anyone here, I just think we've all done a good job for 8 years being civil on the Sunday threads and would like that to continue.

I have my arguments with Fishtalk and Graymatter on this topic, most of them tongue in cheek and I've teased both of them about it, but this post is beyond crude and verging on stupid even if meant as a joke.

I'm finally figuring out why Fishtalk got so pissed at me for one of my replies to something she said earlier. She was suffering under comments like this that I hadn't gotten to yet (so sue me, I'm slow).

IMO you owe them an apology. I trust that you'll examine your own conscience and do the right thing.

Disagree with them at will, that's what we're all about, but don't pull this sort of cheap shot stuff. Frankly it's just dumb.

I would be very sorry if this particular thread, which Alas has nurtured for so many years, is seen by anyone posting here as a hostile venue.

It has never been that way. It is remarkably free of snark and, in my opinion, is the best thread on the net as far as the thoroughness of the research and the willingness of posters to go the extra mile to provide links and additional information if needed.

The hard work and time involved in that research has provided a standard unmatched at any other website.

But there is much more to the thread and no Sunday would be complete without Snugs posting pics of her dinner, or another poster keeping us posted about his son in uniform.

I hope no one deprives himself of this very special place in cyber-space and denies to the rest of us his unique viewpoint.

The posters posted that Rush was thinking with his hormones and not his head. Whether they were serious about that opinion or doing it tongue in cheek I don't know.
