Barbara Walters: Chavez intelligent and passionate
Waterbury Republican-American ^ | March 18, 2007 | associated press

Posted on 03/18/2007 11:19:32 AM PDT by Graybeard58

ABC News' Barbara Walters said Friday that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is an intelligent and passionate man -- to say nothing of heavily caffeinated.

Walters interviewed Chavez this week in Caracas, discussing topics ranging from his family life to his disdain for President Bush in clips aired Friday on "Good Morning America."

At one point, she urged Chavez to drink his coffee, saying "I understand you drink too much coffee?"

"Yes, but you didn't drink yours," Chavez replied through an interpreter.

"You want mine?" Walters asked.

"Give it to me, I will drink it," Chavez said. "I drink a lot of coffee -- beyond any advisable or any medical recommendation. But if I had to quit it, I would. As well as I have quit so many intimate things. I left my home, I left my kids. I see them every now and then. I left what is most dearest to me. I had to abandon them."

Chavez added that he has no regrets because he has dedicated his life to helping the poor. U.S. officials and Venezuelan opposition leaders accuse him of steering the country toward authoritarianism.

Walters noted that Chavez is divorced, and asked whether he wants to remarry.

"It is very hard to be married," Chavez said. "I have been married twice. But it is very hard."

Walters also asked Chavez about calling Bush the devil, a donkey and a murderer.

"Yes, I called him a devil in the United Nations. That's true. In another occasion, another time I said that he was a donkey because I think he is very ignorant about things that are actually happening in Latin America, and the world. If that is in excess on my part, I accept. And I might apologize. But who is causing more harm? Do I cause any harm by calling him a devil? He burns people, villages, and he invades nations."

Asked if he would invite Bush to Venezuela under any circumstances, Chavez said no. "Never. I said in Buenos Aires that he was a political corpse. Fortunately, he will not remain in office for long."

After part of the interview was shown, Walters offered her impressions about the Venezuelan leader.

"He's passionate about his dislike for George Bush. He does like this country, he's passionate about his feelings about America. He feels that with a new president, that we can be friends. He cares very much about poverty, he's a socialist," Walters said.

Walters said she sees similarities in the "larger than life" personalities of Cuban leader Fidel Castro and Chavez. "He sang to me" during the interview, she added.

He cares very much about poverty, he's a socialist,

That's true. Nothing has caused more poverty in the last 100 years than socialism.

But she didn't call him "misguided" or "one-card-short-of-a-full-deck"?

it is disgusting how this dumb bit** and other liberals act. It would be a cold day in hell if Walters ever said GW was intelligent and passionate. Why does anyone give Walters any credence anymore. She has shown her true colors as of late.

All moonbats admire their own, unless their names are Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton.

Is Baba Walters experiencing a case of early on-set alzheimers?

Barbara Walters is an American embarrassment. She is too damned self absorbed to realize what a fool she is. Were she to actually live in Venezuela she would have had her fortune confiscated to buy Russian military equipment and pay for perks for friends of Hugo. She would be terrorized and/or jailed for expressing or publishing any dissenting opinions or embarrassing facts about the regime. Had she said about Hugo what she says about Bush she would have disappeared by now. I will never watch, listen to, or read anything that limited old broad contributes to again.

She is leading the cheer for one of her own.

It was probably almost like looking in the mirror as he spoke her thoughts back to her.

A new pinglist:

(LOOK, no "so if you're interested...."--one week has passed since this pinglist started).

Plaza de las Tres Culturas
pan-Latin America pinglist.*
This pinglist covers a broad range of topics relating to Latin America: culture, current events, politics, science, history, arts, etc.

Warning: This could be a moderate/high volume pinglist.

Note: This pinglist generally does not cover topics pertaining to Latinos in the USA.

Ping if you see a pertinent thread.

*To get on or off this list, freepmail with the subjects Latin America on or Latin America off . No message is necessary. Freepmail.
There is also a: pan-Africa pinglist; pan-Asia pinglist; and a pan-Europe pinglist.
John 3:16 (New King James Version): "16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
This pinglist can terminate at any time, without notice.

If you have something to type (say) about these pinglist signs: they're too garish, too big, they don't easily come up on your computer, they're so butt ugly that they're burning out your retinas..... or even that you think they look decent, then go here and look AT ALL OF THEM, and vote. A prototype "slimmed down" version has been made for the Latin America pinglist.

Don't wish for all of freeperdom to be angry and not type (say) anything about it. Personally find the signs pretty (otherwise they'd have other colors, pictures, sizes, etc.), and of the opinion that currently all of the type should stay (after they get established, then the Notes and even the Warning, and potentially even the links to the other pinglists can be removed).
