Muslims offer to help 'John Does' sued by imams[U.S. Airways Passengers]
The Washington Times ^ | 21 March 2007 | Audrey Hudson

Posted on 03/21/2007 2:20:39 AM PDT by FLOutdoorsman

Lawyers and a Muslim group say they will defend at no cost airline passengers caught up in a lawsuit between a group of imams and U.S. Airways if the passengers are named as "John Does" and sued for reporting suspicious behavior that got the Muslim clerics booted from a November flight.

The six imams are suing the airline, Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan Airports Commission, and the unnamed "John Does" to be named later, for discrimination, saying they were removed from the flight for praying in the airport.

Dr. M. Zuhdi Jasser, a Phoenix-area physician and director of American Islamic Forum for Democracy -- a group founded in 2003 to promote moderate Muslim ideas through its Web site (www.aifdemocracy.org) -- told The Washington Times his group will raise money for legal fees for passengers if they are sued by the imams.

"It's so important that America know there are Muslims who understand who the victims are in air travel," said Dr. Jasser. "But I hope it doesn't get to that point because the backlash will be even greater when Americans see Islamists trying to punish innocent passengers reporting fears."

The lawsuit specifically cites two passengers who stared at the men as they prayed, then made a cell phone call that the imams say went to U.S. Airways to complain about the prayer.

"I have seen little to no action from 'peaceful' muslims to condemn the radical muslims"

That's what Dr Jasser has been doing for yrs.

"In some respects muslims like Dr. Jasser are more dangerous..."

If that's the way you feel, then there's really no point in any muslims doing much to condemn the radicals.

My initial reaction was that it was a squeeze play with radical Muslims on one side and so-called moderates on the other. Thanks for kindly pointing out that Jasser is one of the good guys.

I'd only heard that the imans intended to sue, not that Muslims would help the passengers.

I'll tend to believe the latter when I see it.

As of last night Powerline hadn't responded about being asked to marshal MN lawyers to fight against and help defend against these bogus law suits. Powerline acknowleged being mentioned in the WashTimes article, but that was it as of last night.

Proof is in the pudding. Getting mad at me won't help. The radicals have taken over what is apparently your faith. The outspoken peaceful are very few and far between. Your quick movement "there's really no point in any muslims doing much to condemn the radicals" only proves my point. If muslims were truly peace minded they wouldn't care what I said.

You are welcome. I understand people thinking all Muslims are like the terrorists, and those who don't directly act at least support them. The problem is, those who stand up are never heard because our media makes SURE they are never heard.

This guy has put himself in considerable danger by speaking out, he's done it here for years.

Not mad at you, just pointing out the ridiculousness of your statements and attitude.

You complain that you haven't seen muslims condemning radicals, and then when they do, you say they're dangerous.
So, they're damned if they do, damned if they don't in your eyes.

btw - I'm not muslim, but interesting that you'd jump to that conclusion

"You complain that you haven't seen muslims condemning radicals, and then when they do, you say they're dangerous. "

Not complaining, observing. Big difference.

"So, they're damned if they do, damned if they don't in your eyes. "

IMO a muslim is damned no matter what but thats really a different issue. If muslims want the Christians to believe they are peaceful they should agressively condemn the radicals. Perhaps this guys is doing it in his town but I've never heard of him. CAIR sure is active across the country. Thousands of mosques are being built around the world by the same people who teach 4 yr olds that Jews and non-muslims are aptes.

"Perhaps this guys is doing it in his town but I've never heard of him."

Well, everyone has to start somewhere. He's a private citizen who in the past few years, has had articles appear in the Washington Times several times, National Review,(among other publications) he's been on several radio shows, including Israel National Radio about a week ago, was on Neil Cavuto 2 days ago, and was scheduled for CNN a couple of weeks ago to argue against CAIR, but they bumped his segment.(I wonder why?)
You'll notice he hasn't gotten much attention from the left MSM. Maybe that's why people say they've never heard of him? You can type in keyword Jasser on FR's search engine and find many of his articles.

There are an estimated 1.3 billion muslims in the world. Obviously the vast majority are peaceful or we'd be in a horrible mess.
The WOT is a war against Islamists, not Islam. We don't want a war against 1.3 billion people. CAIR and most of the large islamic organizations in the U.S. that you hear about on the MSM are the bad guys and Dr. Jasser is in a constant battle against them.

He deserves a lot of credit, not negativity.

I hope Dr. M. Zuhdi Jasser has good security. He will need it. The Islamist are not gonna take this kindly.

The media has made "the flying imams" a big story, so hard to ignore Dr. Jasser on this one. He says of CAIR:
"They need to start spending their money on fighting terrorism"

Thanks for the link!

We have been complaining that these guys don't back the USA. I say we use them, and if it works out good, other moderates may follow suit.
