Morality matters in the military (Judge Roy "10 Commandments" Moore)

"The army was now not only starved but naked; the greatest part were not only shirtless and barefoot, but destitute of all other clothing, especially blankets," wrote one soldier. Commanding Gen. George Washington informed the Continental Congress that "unless some great and capital change suddenly takes place ... this army must inevitably be reduced to one or other of these three things: starve, dissolve, or disperse."

Yet despite the harsh conditions for the Revolutionary Army during its winter at Valley Forge – conditions that cost the lives of at least 2,500 of Washington's 6,000 soldiers – Washington remained steadfast in his duty to maintain high standards of morality in the military. On March 10, 1778, "with Abhorrence and Detestation" of homosexual conduct, Washington ordered Lt. Frederick Gotthold Enslin "to be dismiss'd [from] the service with Infamy [disgrace]," and "to be drummed out of Camp tomorrow morning by all the Drummers and Fifers in the Army, never to return." No one objected to such an order.

Over 200 years later, Marine Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was subjected to widespread criticism in the press when he stated last week, in reference to homosexuals serving in the military, that he does "not believe the United States is well served by a policy that says it is OK to be immoral in any way." Under former President Bill Clinton, a new policy of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" was implemented in the military to protect from disclosure the homosexuality of its members. Gen. Pace did not take issue with the policy, but he likened homosexual behavior to adultery and noted that the military "prosecute[s] that kind of immoral behavior."

Sadly, this man will never serve on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Man of principle and a strong leader. There was no gray area back then, just right or wrong. The liberals are changing that on a daily basis, no consequences for hideous crimes...let's reform them. I feel revolution in the air, just wish I knew which way, back to a repulic or onward to previously failed socialism. Americans are lazy and spoiled and we are raising lazy and spoiled children. That's a frightening thought when you know that in 30-40 years they will be in charge.

Moore lost his attempt at becoming Governor of Alabama, but I have always found him to be among THE most PRINCIPLED people who has served in a Governmental position.

Supreme Court,a few years ago they were trying to put the man in jail. I know, I donated to his legal fund. He's awesome and I vote for him for President any day of the week and twice on Sunday !!!

I admire Judge Moore. However, I was very sad to see him make such a big issue over the 10 Commandments monument in the courthouse. The monument had not been in the courthouse for years, rather he had it put there. In the day and age in which we live, that is an "in-your-face" action that would surely get a rise out of the left. And out they came with their daggers.

Over the years, conservatives have worked and prayed so very hard to get men of Judge Moore's moral caliber in places of influence in our nation. He was serving as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in Alabama. Talk about influence!

Now, however, after making such a fuss over whether a monument would be displayed in the lobby of his courthouse, he has lost his place of influence. Sure, he can still make speeches and write books, but the judiciary lost a fine man. His passion for truth would have been better expressed in the context of his rulings, rather than over the placement of a monument. He should have stayed at his post and continued to allow his faith to influence his judicial decisions, decisions that would have affected the lives of citizens for generations to come.

Sadly, a lot of America, and a lot in her Government, will not heed the warnings on this issue. I really don't know what it will take for them to stop the hypocritical alarm bells about everything under the sun in order to make tax money, and start looking at what really is a threat to the planet and human beings.

You make a good point, but if you'll allow an analogy couldn't we make the same point about the ministry of Jesus of Nazareth? After all he was doing a lot of good in the towns and countryside of Gallilie so why go Jerusalem and effectively stick his finger in the eye of the "system"? Sometimes the present situation doesn't always show the later good,and I hope that's the case with Roy Moore !!!

I disagree. His actions just influenced you to ponder the effect the man has on our society.

If only we had 1000 more like him willing to make sacrifices to effect changes in our society.

Moore stood up and took a stand but not enough were willing to follow.

Sometimes you have to stand up and draw a line in the sand.

With these Nazi-like attempts to intimidate people like General Pace, the time is fast approaching for someone somewhere to draw that line against the Gaystapo and their Brownshirt media allies who demonize General Pace's moral convictions which he should have the freedom to express.
