Bombs Hitting Church and Children's Center in Mozambique: Call To Prayer from Iris Ministries

Heidi Baker Emergency Update: She says bombs are hitting their church and their children's center with children in it—PRAY!

NOTE FROM EDITORIAL STAFF [of The Elijah List http://www.elijahlist.com ]: We are all asking for you to please stop and pray right now, many precious people are in extreme danger! —Steve Shultz, Aimee Herd, Jessica L. Miller, Julie Smith, Terry Lea, Jeris Cribbs and all the Elijah List and Elijah Rain family.

The following update was sent out by Iris Ministries.

Heidi asked me to contact you for prayer as bombs have detonated in our capitol city Maputo, Mozambique. Three bombs have already hit our children's center in Zimpeto. As Heidi was talking on the phone with Norberto (her son who was sobbing), a bomb went off as he was speaking in our center. Apparently, he barely moved out of the way to avoid it. Three bombs hit the center. Our church got hit by a bomb, windows were shattered. Our kids just rallied together in our shattered church, just worshiping and worshiping and praying. However, our children are extremely scared.

Rolland and Heidi Baker

The government made a mistake and mixed chemicals in our hot 36 degree (C), (96.8 F) weather. This set off one missile, which had a domino effect. It is complete and utter chaos. There is no way, at this point, to reverse that mistake. I don't believe any of our children have been hit.

Heidi and I will arrive at the capital, on an emergency flight tomorrow. Please pray. Norberto also has one of the highest ratings of malaria. Pray for him too as he has been leading relief efforts in flood zones for a month.

We are trusting Jesus completely. God recently spoke to Heidi that He was going to shine a global spot light on Mozambique. That as the government refused outside help/attention/relief, God Himself would intervene. That even that which the enemy intended for evil would be used for good. We want our entire nation transformed by the glory of God. Nothing less.

In love with Jesus,

Shara Pradhan (for Rolland & Heidi Baker)

The Bakers and Iris Ministries have done an absolutely astonishing work of saving lives during the floods in Mozambique several years ago, of planting churches, housing orphans, bringing food and providing shelter, etc., in that country. Once again, the people of Mozambique are being pressed out of measure and those in the midst of the action are asking for prayer.

Father, we lift this ministry, the children, the church, the Bakers and the country of Mozambique up to You for supernatural protection. I ask for You to provide for every need, from food to shoes. I ask that Your name would be glorified as the world sees Your strong arm of protection over this group of believers. We're trusting You, God, because we know that You are Mighty and able to save! In Jesus name.

If you want on or off the list, go to the link for instructions. Otherwise, it won't be guaranteed that you will be put on or taken off (it still won't be 100% guaranteed, anyway, but will be much more highly probable).

So this is an accident caused by foolish armament preparations ?

I had not heard of any recent terrorist activity in Mozambique.

Your friends are real courageous people.

Mozambique was such a basket case for years that Christian mission organizations had a difficult time getting anyone to go there.

Father, I ask for mercy and Your uplifting Hand during this time.
May Your peace and love fill the air so much that the danger subsides quickly!
Give the Bakers and Your ministers wisdom to do miraculous feats.....
For You are the Most High God of creation. And You are in control of all life!
Let blind eyes see Your holiness and righteousness in the midst of this tragedy.

Let them see Your power of love as their needs are met.
Lift the acrid air far above, until it disapiates and give calmness to these Your people!

Father, You alone are worthy of praise!

Surround the children, the caregivers and teachers, and this ministry with Your Holy Spirit, and give them wisdom from on high!
For You Lord, are the only hope in times like these!

Impress Your people to pray for peace and quiet! And heal those that are injured, Lord!

Disrupt with Your power the bombs and munitions that are going off. Father, You alone can bring this to a halt.

I ask You to bring all Your people to safety, Lord!
In Jesus name
Amen!

I have met Heidi and heard her speak a few times. Their story is absolutely amazing. They'd been missionaries there for some time with very little fruit, then God broke through during the time of the floods a few years ago, and the Bakers have planted over 5,000 churches since then, raised up thousands of leaders, trained them, opened orphanages, healed the sick, through the power of the Lord opened blind eyes, and many other miracles, while living, often in peril of their lives, among the people they love.

They've written some books about their experiences in Mozambique, available at the website at the top of the thread. They are truly faith building books.

Update March 23

To Our Praying Family Across the World
from Heidi and Rolland Baker:

We are writing to ask for concentrated prayer for Maputo, the capitol of Mozambique, which got hit on Thursday, March 22, 2007 with explosions. Blasts occurred at Mozambican National Armory (near the airport). Two missile-like explosions have already hit our children's center in Zimpeto. Shrapnel hit the center and lighted fires. Our main church in Zimpeto, got hit and windows were shattered.

Twenty tons of ammunition were mistakenly set-off by our hot 36 degree (C') weather. The government believes more ammunition has yet to be detonated. Apparently, the hospitals of Maputo are packed with injured people flooding into clinics. The death toll is rising with 72 reported dead, many more displaced, countless injured, and no electricity. We have been given a great opportunity to go and shine The Light to the World.

Julio, our Iris Pemba Administrator, was reporting on the phone that many people are missing limbs. What an opportunity for creative miracles and to witness about The Prince of Peace in a time of chaos and confusion. The situation remains highly dangerous.

Please pray for our children. Due to the missiles hitting the center, some of our children fled to villages. Please pray Jesus will help us find any missing children. The children are currently being evacuated.

Recently, The Mozambican Government decided not to declare a national emergency for the recent flooding of The Zambezia River, despite the fact that tens-of-thousands of lives have been displaced. Iris Ministries is one of the few relief efforts out there. The good news is that no one is refusing Jesus. Heidi said that everyone within the sound of a preacher's voice run to Jesus. Miracles abound, as we are feeding approximately 30,000 people a day.

Current news is posted at Iris Ministries. The Bakers arrive into Maputo on Wednesday. We are posting two recent reports from Mozambican missionaries below:

From Paul & Sally, Iris Zimpeto Missionaries (posted yesterday):

We wanted to update you with how things are in Zimpeto. ... the local army base had 20-tonnes of munitions which were set-off by the heat today. It was similar to the last time this happened (around 3.30 pm), but then the missiles started flying overhead, ... Some ran down to the gate--others grouped in the prayer hut. No one knew the safest place to be--missiles and shells were exploding and flying overhead in all directions for several hours. We could see fires and smoke on the other side of the center walls.

We were with the group in the prayer hut--we had all the children (including the babies) crouch down by the office wall and George taped all the windows. The children were terrified and there was lots of crying which got louder with each explosion. Everyone was praying. After a short time of this, Pastor Jose began to sing and clap and we all began to worship. As we did this, not surprisingly, the atmosphere completely changed and we all managed to find a degree of peace as we worshiped and drowned out the sounds around us.

The explosions stopped late evening, and we managed to feed the children in the prayer hut. As we write, they are slowly returning to their dorms, although the babies will sleep in the prayer hut as there is a lot of glass in the baby house.

The damage/issues that we can see at present include the following:

• Children are missing. Many ran away; some were in the city. We are doing a head-count and will look for the missing ones as soon as it's daylight.

• The church was hit by a missile. There is damage to the roof and to the corner, and a big hole in the ground outside.

• There is damage to school roofs, shrapnel all over the center, many blown windows, and false ceilings have collapsed. The finance office is full of debris, and the finance computer is broken and the ceiling is down.

We will keep you informed especially about missing children.

We are so thankful that as far as we know, the damage to Zimpeto was relatively small compared with the size of the explosions.

There are no injuries to Zimpeto children or staff to-date. Although it was a very traumatic time, we believe that everyone's faith levels have shot up dramatically!

From Pieter and Rika Boersma:

Yesterday, explosions shook Maputo, leaving thousands fleeing their homes and the death toll is at seventy-two. ... The government was storing old ammunition and explosions [explosives] in a warehouse close to the airport. In January, there was a small explosion and the government promised to move the explosives. They failed to do this ...

Some of the stories coming through the media are horrific--only arms and legs were found, and a mother still breastfeeding was found amongst some of the bodies as people are going through the rubble.

Please pray for Mozambique, this is the third disaster this year that it has to face. God has a plan for this nation, and only He can transform it and we know that He is going to do it. We believe He is going to make her like a diamond, and then He is going to present her to the nations. We believe that through Mozambique, God is going to touch the nations and we are excited to be here.
