"There's a line you can not cross when you're running through the parking lot chasing after a suspect brandishing a gun," Sgt. Christopher Cross saidCT law....if you grab your gun & give chase (no matter what the perp did) YOU then become the threat in the eyes of the law and are subject to arrest.
Nothing like coddling the bad guys.

Not surprised.
My son took the pistol permit class - taught by two retired cops, one state, one local. What they told him is that here in Connecticut, you basically have no right to protect yourself, even if the bad guys come into your house.

"CT law....if you grab your gun & give chase (no matter what the perp did) YOU then become the threat in the eyes of the law and are subject to arrest." The once-revolutionary Northeast states have become a disgrace to their historic roots. The main branch of my family has been in Connecticut for over 300 years, and to read this kind of ridiculous liberal BS brings me to tears. Ct has certainly deteriorated since they tore down the statue of King George, and melted it down to make musket balls.

In quite a few states, most notably Florida, Louisiana, and Texas, the manager or for that matter, a bystander would have been fully justified in blowing the perp away. I'm glad to see that avoiding brie, white wine and the Ivy League contributes to law and order in part of our nation.

Interesting. They know the truck, license plate and guys who are doing this, but the CT cops hasn't found these guys yet.
At least in our state, cops nonchalantly admit that burglars don't live very long around here.
To: Puppage
For the cops it was much easier arresting the store worker than going after the real perp.

I know where this store is. Its just across the town line from East Hartford (although it might be the only nice part of East Hartford).
East Hartford is classified as an inner-city. Lots of gangs. Manchester is getting there.

Pulling a gun is a very serious step , and should not be taken lightly.
If the guy thought that he, or some other person was in danger then, yes , he had every right and even an obligation to secure their safety.
But ..... stealing a generator is not a death penalty offense. Nor is running away with one.
His priority should have been simply to secure the safety of the people on the scene.
There is no room for error once the trigger has been pulled.
But ... after saying this , I believe it's clear that this guy did nothing wrong.
He did not shoot the perp.
Where as the threat of force didn't stop the guy from stealing , it probably did have the effect of enhancing the safety of the people .
In other words ... the bad guy was getting out of town , not going back for seconds, where he could have possibly hurt someone.
If the bad guy had turned to threaten the good guy the good guy would have been justified in pulling the trigger. And in that event it would have been prudent to have his arm at the ready.
Give him a raise and a medal.

Does Connecticut have a group analogous to Virgnia's VCDL?
If not, I'm wondering.... maybe, from now on, the members of every gun group -- NRA, GOA, 2AF, state groups, local groups, etc. -- should BOMBARD the politicians/police/etc. of ANY town where this kind of nonsense happens.
Maybe when they realize they're going to get half a million letters delivered to their office EVERY time this happens, plus all kinds of unwanted national publicity, they might think twice about pulling this kind of crap.

the people of Conn. are pussies, the cops are pussies and the DA is chief vagina.
I doubt they have a stand up toilet anywhere in the state.
This 60- something year old man is being charged by the donut chompers cause they are too lazy, stupid, incompetent or corrupt to do their jobs.
writing tickets, looking tough, getting to do a no-knock drug bust on granny, maybe even getting to pretend their special-operators by wearing the black balaclavas and carrying full auto H-K's ..is what these LEO's are doing.
How 'bout just packing it in and moving out. The rich will have security guards while the hoi-poloi get to be subservient to the criminals and the supposed legal authority.
the chances of me living north of the Red River=0
my wife is begging to do some shopping and see some shows in New York, I told her to go with her friends cause unless it's on business there ain't sh#t up north that I've got to see that we don't have in Texas, or I can't live without.

You can make a citizen's arrest. I guess St. Cross has never heard of it? If so, the DA will get a fast education in the concept. He broke no law in going after the bad guys. End of story.
